9 - walk, walk, walk..... as early and as often as you can stand it. Not only does it help prevent clotting & DVT, but it also helps speed healing, and reduce some of the gas pain (if you're having the procedure done Lap, there will usually be some pain from the gas they inflate your abdomen with)
10- if you have a comfortable pair of slippers with rubber or hard plastic soles, they're MUCH more comfortable than the standard foam disposable slippers they give you in the hosp.... also making #9 easier and more comfortable to do.
congrats, and good luck.
usually while you're in the hosp, it's just easier to use the gowns.... wear one normally (open in back) for when you're resting in bed.... when you get up to walk, use a second gown, worn like a robe (open in front)... this will keep you adequately covered, and it's much easier than dealing with any sort of pants, with or without a catheter.
That said... I don't even know how long you'll have a catheter in, so that may not even be an issue. I had a different procedure, and a different surgeon, at a different hospital.... so I'm sure your catheter experince will be different than mine
The only thing I would bother bringing for clothes is some loose sweats (or lounge-pants) and a loose shirt (button-down will be easier to put on/off) to wear for the ride home when you're discharged.
they didnt use a catheter on me but once they hook you to IV when you come around
try to go ASAP because they do monitor your output , they dont want any issues with the
Kidneys. I had same arrival time and surgery time i didnt feel like walking til about 8 pm
that night but once you get up it helps with the gas. If you can burp it helps it you can get it
out the other end it helps even more, but that didnt happen til the next day for me. For me the pain wasnt too severe more like a bad stomach ache and they will give you pain meds , the first night is the worst and the wait for those ever important first sips of water GOOD LUCK !
The longest of Journeys start with a single step
(90 lost pre-surgery)
I brought a big robe to cover my butt when it hung out thru the hospital gown as I shuffled around the halls 5x a day.
Best of luck!
