Tara,

My surgeon was Dr. Clarke who works at Ellis Hospital, so I don't want to speak for Dr. Singh.

I am almost 1 week out and will be seeing my Dr. on Thursday.  For this first week I have been on clear liquids and I don't feel ready for much more at this time.

 I have been having

    1.    Crystal Light type drinks

    2.    Ocean Spray Diet Cranberry Grape diluted 1/2 and 1/2 with water

    3.    Sugar free Jello

    4.    Sugar Free Popsicles

    5.    Low Sodium / Fat Free Broth (chicken, Beef and Vegetable)

    6.    Water, herbal tea of course

Please double check this with Dr. Singh prior to having any of these to "eat"

Best of luck with your surgery!  My recovery so far, has been much quicker and easier than I ever expected pre-op.  I have had very little pain, my biggest discomfort was the gas pains and all that helped was walking.  As has been stated on this site by other people make sure you bring chap stick, crystal light if allowed, herbal tea if you like and I also brought sugar free Jello cups, although I got flavors I liked on my food trays.

Jim thanks so much for the feedback. I definitely will check with Dr. Singh but it certainly gives me a good idea of what to expect. I am so glad to hear that you are recovering well. I can only hope that mine goes as well. Thanks again

I to had Dr Clarke... and I ate Jello, SF popcycles, and water for the entire week.  I have graduated to the next stage and I have eaten eggs, ricotta and cottage cheese, an egg, yogurt... maybe stock up on tuna, SF pudding, and anything else soft and in high protein.  Good luck... I am 8 days out and feel great, better each day. I too see Dr clarke Thursday, what time will you be there Jim???

Britt,

What are mushies?  Also I have been craving Mexican, I assume the refried beans are the low fat ones, what did you add to them?

I really am enjoying cottage cheese right now.  I had some pureed peas last night with dinner and let me tell you I have never enjoyed peas so much!  On the other hand I do not enjoy the Beneprotein at all and have decided not to ruin my food with it.  I have tried mixing it in milk (yuck), a smoothie (a little better), soy milk (better still), and soy milk with a little flavoring extract (not great, but so far the most palatable).  I am looking forward to when I now longer require the protein supplements and I can meet my requirements through my diet.

Hey Jim, Mushies are just that .... MUSHY food - not solid. Basically slider foods that go down easily, for a new post op. FF refried beans or chilli or both :) sprinkle cheese on top microwave add a spoonfull of sourcream .... yumm- o Try using HOOD calorie count Chocolate - SOOOOOO good - DELISH- to mix your protein. I had a hard time finding a protein drink that I loved - now I can't live with out 'em even tho - i can easily get all my protein thro food - the drinks are *my treat*  best of luck to you. hugs, Britt
