Need a doc in GP in NYC to put me on a diet
Hi, I have GHI and they require a 6mth diet from a doctor for approval. I am planning on having my surgery done at NYU Medical and they referred me to a Doctor for a Physical, blodd etc, but she wants to send me to a Nutritionalist for the diet, and it isn't really covered on my plan. GHI offers a discount program for Nutritionalists only.
I called another GP I used to see a few years ago and he also wants to refer me to a Nutritionalist also, he told me he has never really put a patient on a diet.
Does anyone know of a Medical Doctor, a regular GP or Internist in Manhattan who can put me on a diet, as I need to do the diet for 6 mths for my approval?
Thanks.
Typically a MEDI ALLY SUPERVISED diet includes going to a Primary Care getting a diet (a handoout say on 1,200 cal) them writing that in chart and getting monthly apts for weigh ins and again coding that visit for that purpose... But of course if you want to use and work the plan going to a nutritionist may help more! Jamie

I know all of this already, but thanks.
In my original post I was looking for a GP in Manhattan that does it, which is hard to find here. Most do not want to be bothered with putting patients on a diet, they would rather refer you to a nutritionist.
I was finally able, after about 30 phone calls, to find a GP who will put me on a diet and supervise it, as opposed to being referred to a nutritionist which is not covered on my insurance - the reason I wanted to go to a GP in the first place.
My insurance plan only offers coverage for a nutritionist with a co pay if you have diabetes, otherwise it is a 10% discount. Nutritionist in Manhattan are expensive.
