Hi Everyone! Wanted to check in -- I had open RNY on Monday, March 17 Every day is better. I went back to work yesterday but could only manage until 12:00. Am shooting for at least 2:00 today. Do have some questions: 1. My energy level/strength sucks! Showering exhausts me! Work was good yesterday, but I was overwhelmed, the emotional anethesia roller coaster kicked in and a half day was it! When does the strength come back? 2. Showering - I used to love to stand in a hot shower, relax, and get clean. Now I am almost to the point where I hyperventilate if I am in more than 5 minutes. I need to do everything fast or I get queasy and feel like passing out. I make sure I am well hydrated before I get in, don't use really ho****er. What's up with this? 3. Starting yesterday I have developed a "twinge" of discomfort every so often on the left side of my belly. It just started - could it just be the healing? 4. Protein - IT MAKES ME SICK!! I have tried many varieties, flavors of protein drinks. I have watered them down, I have doctored them. When I drink them, they make me queasy to the point I think I am going to vomit. The only one that did not make me too sick was the EAS chocolate fudge. Should I just stick with that for now? Will the queasiness go away? I have lost 30 pounds in the past three weeks, which made me cry at the doc's office. Looking forward to your answers. Deb

Deb, I can relate to the exhaustion part.  I went to work 3-1/2 weeks after my surgery and it was WAY too early.  I had to work partial days for about 10 days.  My strength took a good 90 days to get back to 100%...so, don't worry.  I think the shower thing is just because you are still a little weak.  After my surgery I had "taste" issues with everything from the protein to my vitamins...that also improved.  I made an effort to try to get my daily protein in my food...keep track...and see if that works.  The queasiness was the worse for me in the morning...I was very "rocky" the first hour.  My doctor suggested having a soda cracker when I wake up...that helped.  The twinges..I'm sure are healing pains.  I hope this helps...YES...every day gets better...trust me :o) Rosemary

Glad to hear you are doing well, it sure takes time to get back to yourself!  I know for me work was hard even though I had a desk job. I was out 3 weeks and then the 4th I came back only half days! Take your time and heal good, try to get your protein in. I know it can be tough! Just keep trying different things. The Instone pudding is a good thing for me, I enjoy it.  I had really bad twinges while the nerves were healing, I could not even stand my shirt to rub against my tummy. Keep us posted hun, thanks for the update! ~Hugs~
