New to the Site, with a question for the post surgery crowd
Hi Jim!
My hubby and I had the surgery with Dr. Clark, me in January and my husband in February. We are both happy that we had the surgery and Dr. Clark and his office have been great.
The medifast is tough at first, but I found it got easier and I was glad after surgery that I had done it. For one reason, I had lost 62 pounds prior to surgery - my husband lost 90 before surgery. That made the surgery much easier and Dr. Clark was very happy. Also, after surgery being used to the medifast made being on liquids and pureed much easier - heck after 12 weeks of being on Medifast pureed was great!
I think it's great to have this surgery with my spouse. We support each other, learn from each other, and are both going through the changes. I think it is strengthening our relationship and hopefully you will find the same thing. Good luck to you both!
Jeanine

Howdy Neighbor (well, SORT of a neighbor I'd guess)
Best of luck on your journey. Ellis has a GREAt bariatric program with very skilled surgeons. As a location, that was my first choice, but they don't perform the procedure I wanted so I went down to NYC for my surgery. I do have a couple friends who had Clarke & Lirio and they were very happy with their care.
It's great that you have such a supportive wife... though, I guess she'd HAVE to be, as she'll be going through it shortly after you. Mine wasn't so supportive at first, though she DID finally come around once she saw the changes in me (not just appearance either)
Again... best of luck.

Congrats on your decision to do the right thing. That is the very reason that only my husband, mother (only because we eat out alot and she needed to know) and my two sons know. I asked all of them to keep it to themselves. I did not what everyones opinion. I also don't want my surgery and weight loss to be the topic of every conversation forever. You know there is the woman who had the surgery! I did the medifast and it was hard but it was worth it now. If that is all it took we would all be skinny. Any heavy person knows weight loss is always temporary and you gain more back. I struggled with this decision but I knew it was the right thing to do. Everyone on the sites say they are happy and would do it again even the people who had some complications. I had the lapband and I am very happy I did it. I am down 37 lbs and just had the surgery on Feb. 27th. I have been on a plateau for about a week but the wonderful people on this site helped me realize that it is normal.
Pick up a book on the surgery at the bookstore or on amazon.com It is very helpful and will walk you through everything. I can't believe how I use to eat compared to now. Good Luck to you and your wife and don't listen to others. Research and make up your own mind! I did!

Hi! I have to start by saying that this surgery was the best decision i ever made for myself and my family. I have worked hard with the help of this tool and have been successful.
As for you and your wife, this has to be your decision and nobody elses. It is a very individual thing. Its nice you have each other for support. It is a journey, it has its ups and downs and is an emotional rollercoaster sometimes but that is to be expected, you are changing your whole lifestyle as you have know it. Sounds as if you have done your research and your homework and are ready for this. I want to wish both of you positive thoughts and prayers for successful surgeries and quick and easy recoveries. We are here for you. Support is very important,.

Having WLS was the best thing I could have ever done for myself.....I had the DS in feb. 2006 I weighed just under 500 lbs.....18 months later I was 199 lbs. I'm now 2 years 1 month out and I've been normal and maintaining for about 6 months...it's awesome being a NORMAL SIZE.
I THANK GOD regularly that I found out about the DS.
