Joy, Good Luck!!!  Make sure you take a robe and slippers for your walks after surgery. IV and drain were a pain...and the crazy massaging socks they had on me to prevent blood clots.  Make sure you have a least a week's worth of supplies at home for when you come home.  Also remember not to overdo...I'm excited for you! Don't forget some mouthwash.  I had my chapstick, and toothbrush and tooth paste, but after surgery, my mouth tasted really bad.  As soon as I was able to start drinking some water, I also swished with some mouthwash.  It worked the best of anything.

I wish you well today for an uneventful surgery and speedy recovery!

Chapstick may help preop as the rooms tend to be dry! Some bring a small fan (if hospital allows and a pillow from home for comfort!) Sometimes slippers robe helps when you want to get up and walk to get gas moving and prevent clots. Each program is individual and based on your outcomes may or may not have certain experiences! I had IV for a few day, a foley cath first day that came out shortly after, went second day for upper Gi study with gastrigraffin (yuck) called 'leak test', then sip on fluids, ice chips and some have epidural or pain pump earlyon. U mayget antiembolitic stockings they work when in bed to prevent clots. You will be on the other side soon enough! The surgery actually is the easy part! Be well and keep in touch!
