I didn't have to do a pre diet either,  just the clear liquids and had to drink this stuff to clean me out.   I can say for myself that the sugar / choc /  carb monster has never left me,  it will always be there and a forever fight against them,  although I am doing much better with giving up the sugar because there are so many options out there in place of it.  Carbs are my biggest problem.  And I am trying to get back on track,  but at least I have this tool of mine to help me through it.  I realized a couple weeks ago,  that I really don't have real hunger anymore,  all this time it has been head hunger and I couldn't recognize the difference.  My stomach hasn't growled in hunger since the day before surgery.  If you feel you can start now,  by all means do it.  #1 cut out all carbinated soda and say goodbye to it forever,  you don't need it,  and it is the worst thing for you.  Start there and just cut out little bits here and there and it won't seem like such a huge thing.

I can't remember the exact amount of protein we need,  but I always try to get between 60 - 80 in a day.   I used the Walmart brand shakes, love the taste, Body Fortress,  in vanilla and chocolate, 23 grams per serving.   March 17th sounds like a very lucky day!!!  I wish you the best and a speedy recovery.   Shannon 257/157/130  gained 10 back,  getting back on track, getting ready to make a workout room in the house  so that I can do some reps inbetween when clients are here.

Hey Briget, My doc doesn't do a pre-diet either.  I scheduled my surgery the day after my birthday so I could have a "last meal" on my birthday...the joke was on me when I found out that the day before was all clear liquids!   If I had to do it again, I'd maybe gradually cut down on the caffeine and on the carbs, definately practice slow chewing and small bites (see my post on chewing & the ER, not fun), but I wouldn't do much else.  This is just my opinion, but why subject yourself unnecessarily to all liquids--you're gonna be on them after surgery anyway! As for the protein drinks, many people get samples before surgery --Jamie help me out here, where do you get them from??  Your tastes might change a great deal after surgery, so what tastes good now might not taste good then. Good luck, and we're moving over on the losers' bench!

I also did not have a pre liquid diet. I did, however, start to eliminate caffeine and soda and tried to maintain my weght for surgery. It made the transition that much smoother. I tried the samples first from a web site recommended by Jamiecat. I don't know if she sells samples still, but I found that so helpful. Maybe it was http://www.vitalady.com/ ??? Anyway, don't go overboard buying protein drinks. Good Luck

My dr required me to be on a 12 week liquid diet... Medifast. It was tolerable but since surgery I cannot find a protein source other than food that I can tolerate at all... they taste horrid to me!!! I was told at my stage I should get at least 65-70g of protein a day & I do that all with food... most days I get in more!! Don't worry - we've got plenty of room here on the bench for ya... we'll keep it warm!!! Cece
