I am trying to make plans for time off with my work and was wondering how long people were out of work. I know that everyone is different, just trying to get an idea. Thanks for your feedback.

I had my lap rny on 02/13 and will be going back to work on Monday March 3rd, just 2 days from being out 3 weeks.    I had my post op with the doctor last Friday and he said that was fine.  I feel pretty good and am sure I will be tired but it will be nice to get out and moving!   I have spoken with some that are out 2 weeks and some take 4 weeks.   I am definately ready to go back.   I have a desk job, and I know that makes a difference. Hope this helps Michelle...

Glad to hear that ... I work at home so I am hoping that maybe 2 weeks will be enough.

Tara,  I also had Dr. Singh and was back to work in a week and a half. I have a desk job so it was ok. I got tired easily at first and sitting in a chair for 8 hours was the biggest pain. But i did fine. You will know how much you can do. Try not to rush yourself, just listen to your body. Good Luck!!

I had my surgery on 2/11/08.  I am still out of work.  I will not see Dr. Singh until Thursday.  i am no where near going back to work.  I have not even started to eat pureed foods yet.  I am taking my timegoing back to work. My left side is still vert tender and I am worried about how my new ouch is going to feel with food.  i DO NOT wan to be sick at work.  I also have a desk job BUT my job is very stressfull and I am not sure I can handle eating new foods and dealing with all of my clients at work LOL.  So I for one and going to take my time and see how things go.  I think that your dr will also let you see how you are doing.  I will let the message board know after Thursday what DR says.  i wish you good luck.  Just make sure youTAKE YOUR TIME.  I remember going to a group that said this surgery is something that you are doing for yourself.  You need to take the time and get used to your new stomach.....Time off work will not be most important.  I mean we all have to pay bills...... But I was one that said I am only going to take 2 to 3 weeks off.....Well guess what I was not prepared for how tired and somethimes crappy you feel.  I will prorbaly will feel better when I can eat real food.  Like I said i think it is a persnal choice.  Bridgit

I was off 3-1/2 weeks and it wasn't enough.  I had a problem with exhaustion.  I worked at an office job, but I worked at a counter which involved getting up and down from a stool.  I had to work shortened hours for about 2 weeks.  I was older (55 at the time) ...so, that might make a difference.  Take as much time as you can...it is a slow process getting back to 100%....it actually took me about 90 days.  Good Luck...keep us updated. Two weeks for me.  the first 2 days were hard...I took a taxi from Penn Station to 26th and B'way.  But after that I was a little tired but fine.    Dr. Garber said "you can go back after a week."  If he said that to me now, I'd tell him he's nuts, and I love the man!  Good luck.

Hi Tara, I was out of work for about three weeks, which Dr. Singh thought was a good amount of time.  I probably could have returned after two weeks but it was nice to have the extra week to adjust to the new eating regimine.  I was also very very sore on my lower left side.  That actually didn't go away for about 6-8 weeks.  Good luck. I had my surgery on Nov. 20th and went back to work on Dec. 3. One day shy of 3 weeks. I could have went back the week before but didn't have my doctor appointment for the note to return until that week. I felt great after mine. Very little pain after I was home from hospital. Just have to remember to walk and sip. Good luck on your coming surgery. Christine
