I'm having my surgery there next monday (Feb 25th) by Dr Roslin.

I think I know what now to bring...but can anyone tell me how the hospital staff treats their patients?  I'm nervous about being ignored &/or being in pain.

the staff is AWESOME.... but I'll tell you this.... no matter how cold you think it is, BRING YOURSELF A FAN... just a small desktop fan should suffice.  It can be incredibly HOT there on the 8th floor, and I don't think the windows open.  I was there mid-November and sweat bullets the whole time I was in. Since I had a different procedure, I don't know for sure how they handle pain management for you... I had a PCA pump, and that worked well once they got it dialed in correctly.  It dispenses meds through your IV when you press a button... but it only allows a certain dosage every ___ minutes.  They can play around with the dosage and times until you get a combo that works well for you.  At first, they had me on a high dose allowed every 20 or 30 min.... I was having a problem that the dose would work REALLY well for the first 5 min, then I'd be in pain again... so they lowered the dosage, yet changed the time for every 10 min and I was all set. Both Roslin and Shah are great surgeons (chances are you'll see both of them while you're in as they take turns doing rounds), and I can't say enough about the care they gave, as well as the nursing staff on the 8th floor. Don't forget the fan. Good luck

Dr. Shah will be my surgen, I've heard nothing but good things about both doctors.  I don't have a date yet I'm still doing a lot of testing, but it's good to know that when the time comes I wil be in good hands.  :o)

Hi MIchelle,  Cant blame you for being nervous. Surgery is scary stuff. You can read about my Lenox Hill experience on my profile but remember that the rooms have all been redone since then and are substantially better. While I had a rough time in the hospital, I had a picture perfect recovery and weight loss has been awesome. I would do it all over again if I had too. Discomfort and all; it has been so worth it!! Good luck and I look forward to watching your journey.

I had a great experience despite being a "lighter weight"  rny patient I felt lost in the bed and hospital gown.

The staff is wonderful!! Dr Roslin is THE MAN!! Dr Shaw is great as well.

The only thing I suggest bringing is your own gown or pj's (the one's they had for me were too big and I kept feeling I was being choked), lipbalm, and your own pillows  (hospital pillows bite!!)

All the best and I'd be happy to come see you Tue or Wed if you are up to visitors just send me a PM.

201 pounds lost since surgery!! And I'm 2 1/2 inches taller too!!

And YES I still eat Carbs and Fats but I know what portion control is!!
