Went To NYC yesterday....

I had so much fun. My M-I-L flew into Kennedy with a 7 hour layover so we picked her up and went to lunch. We went to a Chinese rest. in queens and then walked to a dollar store in the same plaza. At the rest. we had to sit at a table seeing I don't fit in a booth. Then, at the store, I had to turn sideways to get around some stuff in the aisle. We dropped her off at the airport and drove to Manhattan to go sightseeing (my wife and I). We took the subway for the first time. COOL! I had to turn sideways to get through the turn thingy like they have at ball games. I had to turn sideways to get through those tall spinning metal thingies.  We went down this hallway/walkway at the WTC and I had to turn sideways to walk by the others walking towards me. I had to walk sideways up the stairs as people were walking past me. I got tired of walking and took the escalators. I had to turn sideways to let people walk down the escalator beside me. Then, walking back up the hill to the Church St. I saw a girl in front of me whose legs were as big as mine, but had bowed legs..so she walked like those cartoon cowboys. Everyone around her was kinda snickering and looking at her funny. I walked over to her and encouraged her as we walked up the steep sidewalk. People jeered and snickered but we just walked. I went my way...she went hers. I went to the subway station and turned sideways yet again to get  to the subway platform. HAHAHAHA!!! GIMME A YEAR NYC and YOU will have NOTHING ON ME!!! But, yet, I still want to remember what it was like to be this big to still have compassion and empathy for others. /rant off.

I remember those days of narrow staircases, escalators & turnstiles... frustrating & embarassing as hell!!! Good for you though for getting out & about!!! Pretty soon you'll be running all over NYC with no problems at all!! I have to say I commend you for encouraging that young lady!! It really breaks my heart to see/hear people do/say things like that... like they're so dang perfect!! Who do they think they are that gives them the right to humiliate anyone like that!!! I have been on the recieving end of some mean & hurtful comments as I am sure many of us have so this is always a sore subject with me!!!! Anyway - keep up the great work!! You're doing awesome!!! Cece
