Photo Shoot

Yesterday, I was asked to participate in a photo shoot for Dr. Ahmad (my bariatric surgeon).  I was one of several people asked.  Honored by the request I went to the taping at Mather Hospital.
We were taped individually doing some sort of exercise, then later our voices were recorded and finally a group shot was taken.  I am not certain that my picture will be chosen, however, I felt like a million bucks just being asked.
I was there from 2:00pm to 8:30pm.  Not just for the Photo Shoot, but also for my Dr.'s Info Session (which he asked me to speak at) followed by his monthly support group session.  Got home very late because of the snow and slow moving traffic.
When I got home, my husband didn't even ask me how it went!  He is REALLY starting to **** me off with his lack of concern towards me.
For the first time in my life....I am beginning to feel beautiful...why isn't he acknowledging this?  I only get negative comments from him regarding how I look.  Truthfully, he was NEVER one to give compliments, but I REALLY REALLY NEED TO HEAR THEM THESE DAYS.....AND FROM HIM.
I am enjoying receiving compliments from others.......but afraid that this is beginning to change me and my thoughts and desires.

Hi MaryEllen,
Relationships are always on rails, but when one person goes through a massive change as after weight loss surgery, it's very easy for the relationship to become derailed. If you're not already, maybe you might want to consider marriage counseling. It's a safe atmosphere with an impartial arbitrator to help you to hear each other and communicate better.

I wish you the best,

Amy

Maryellen, First C O N G R A T S on being asked to participate in the photo shoot, that is a "biggie" :)  HOW EXCITING!!!! Second ...Maybe your husband is threatened by your new confidence / the new skinny *you*? Maybe he feels that your involment in your WLS journey , support group meetings and such is keeping you away from home more than he would like.  Has he expressed that? I am guessing before WLS you were more available and "there" at home???? As far as him not asking about your big day- Did you express your excitment about it to him prior? If you did and he didn't acknowledge it - that is wrong on his part!  Negative comments - why?  That really sounds like he is feeling  insecure with the *new you*. I would talk to him and get this out in the open and give him some examples of what he is saying and how your feelings are hurt.  Men!!!!!!!!!!! hugs, Britt

Wow, congratulations to you on being part of the photo shoot.  That is such a compliment to you and all your accomplishments. I agree with Britt regarding your husband.  My first thoughts upon reading this were that perhaps he is feeling threatened by the new you.  Not that this forgives him for his lack of enthusiasm for you. Maybe opening up a line of communication with him, going out to dinner or something along those lines and talking to him might help or even seeking outside help.   However things work out, I wish you the best and I hope that things work out the way that you wish them to. Again, congrats on a wonderful compliment - the photo shoot and being asked to speak at the info session. Take care, Sue

Congratulations on your accomplishment.  Maybe your husband feels that you are finding other interests.  I definitely think a heart-to-heart is in order. Good luck...keep us posted. Rosemary
