One Lump Or Two?

One of my favorite cartoons is where those crows are hosting a tea party for the tomcat. When they ask the cat if it wants sugar, the cat responds "yes". One of the crows asks the cat "one lump or two?" The Tomcat says Two please, so the other crow flat out nails the tomcat with a big hammer TWICE on the head. I LOVE IT!! Anyway, I have a question about protien shakes.....pre-op..... Should I have 2 scoops or only 1? How much of a shake should I have if I am only using skim milk or water?  I needs to know..... I find myself REALLY hungry after 8oz of protein shake for breakfast and lunch.

Hey Tim. I try to get in about 25-30 grams of protein per shake, so that's how I determine 1, 1.5 or 2 scoops. My current protein that I use is 2 scoops and 27 grams of protein if made with water.

I'm just beginning my journey .... what kind of protein drinks do you use? And where do you get them?

I use several different proteins:
EAS Protein powder from Costco
Labrada Lean Body from GNC or Vitamin Shoppe
Isopure from from GNC or Vitamin Shoppe
Nectar Iced Tea from Bariatriceating.com

You have to find what works for you. At the Bariatric Eating and Vitalady sites you can order samples. It's a great way to try different proteins without breaking the bank. Also, don't stock up on protein before surgery as many people say that their tastes change after surgery.

They aren't free...you do have to pay for the samples, but it's about $2.00-2.50 each. That sure beats spending $50.00 on protein that you don't use because you hate it. I have found some great protein by getting the samples.

I think I know what cartoon you are talking about!!! It's too funny!!! I can't help you with the protein shake info - I hate those things & cannot find one I can tolerate!! I have a big bag of Matrix Chocolate sitting here going to waste!! I can drink it if I make hot chocolate out of it but it gets cold too quick & you're not supposed to use boiling water!!! I am getting plenty of protein in via food so I am not stressing out over it!!! What did your dr say to have during the pre-op stage? Maybe he will allow a "double" for you!! Are you allowed anything to eat in addition to the shakes? Are the shakes the only calories you're getting? I know - all these questions!!!
