New here!
Hi! Thought I would introduce myself, I'm Maggie...I live in Rego Park, Queens,43, i'm 5'4" and about 256lbs...and umm my journey so far...well i started researching WLS about 3 years ago...I wasn't a fat kid but I guess around puberty I started to gain weight...though i'm not sure i was fat then either...I developed very early but I remember being take to weigh****chers the first time at 12 years of age. I was well developed by then, had passed for 16 but I guess my parents thought i was a fat kid.
Anyway, over the years i've tried lots of diets, from Richard Simmons to Weigh****chers about 10 times and nothing worked for very long.
My first realization of WLS came i believe when Carney Wilson had hers and I started to look into it. At that time, I made an appointment with Dr. Garber in Great Neck and went thru a few of the tests he required, psychological and saw a cardiologist but then i found out my insurance didn't cover the surgery at all so I gave up and probably joined WW again lol....Fast forward a little, my sister, some of you may know her, SueofAstor, had WLS and I began to see the changes in her and how great she looked...and I had been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes a couple of years before as well as high cholesterol, high tryglerides and I began to research again a little bit.
Well last year I fractured my leg and while I was out of work for 4 months I realized how much weight I had gained again, when I was diagnosed with diabetes, I lost 40lbs and rather quickly gained it all back and then some. Fast forward a little more, cuz this is turning into a novel lol
After much going back and forth in my own mind, I made the decision finally to attend the lecture that my sisters doctor gives, which i did a few days ago...what he said made a lot of sense about diets and how many actually keep the weight off. After the lecture I decided that its time for me to get healthy...get this weight off and change my life, so I made an appt for my first consult which is February 22nd. I'm nervous and excited at the same time but I believe its gonna be the best decision i've ever made.
And 3 years later, my insurance now covers WLS...so i'm crossing my fingers it all goes smoothly.
Thanks for listening and I hope to get to know you all (smiles*
Maggie
