I have a question. I was thinking about going to the support group this Thursday however I am bringing my son to a concert that starts at 8 pm that night. Do you have to stay the whole time to get credit for the group? Thanks

I am not sure if you have to stay for the whole thing, but certainly a good portion of it. You also have to sign the sign-in sheet, which is what gives you credit for the meeting. It's best to stay, just so you can get the most out of it possible...

The WLS support meeting tomorrow night @ Albany Med Thurs 1/24 is from 5:30 to 7:30. I have been to one general surgery support group like this weeks group back in November, and have been to one lap band support group. I have found that sometimes I don't even want the meetings to end because they are so darn inspirational and packed with so much information and stories of journeys that people are on, and sometimes you can even inspire others.  If you come to tomorrow night's WLS general support meeting, if the concert doesn't start until 8pm, depending on how far away it is, perhaps he could get there on time, seeing as meeting gets over with around 7:30pm. I was at one of last month's GENERAL WLS support group and I couldn't have been more inspired. Trust me, it's so worth the 2 hours. I wi**** could be longer. Or more frequent.  FYI, there is also a lap band support group meeting scheduled for 2/12 from 5pm to 6:30pm,  the night before my lap band surgery.  I would not miss that particular meeting for the world. It will be the night before my surgery. I want and need as many people there as I can possibly recruit. I am happy, but anxious, and nervous, and excited, all rolled into one. Please do this for yourself and make time to come. The more groups you can come to, the more informed you are, the better educated you are about both surgeries, and you hear first hand experiences from people who have had different experiences with both surgeries. Please come, it will be wonderful to see you there. Don't forget the information line for the meetings @ Albany Med is:  262-2195 and the office # is 262-0942.  Hope to see you there!!!! There is no way that I would make it on time as I would have to come back home to pick up my son. So I guess I will just try to go to the next one. Thanks

Please do not forget that all bariatric patients - regardless of surgeon chosen, are welcome to attend the Ellis Bariatric Support Group meetings. The group often has speakers (Colleen Cooke - author, Dr Nydegger ) or special events (September's Walk From Obesity) and members are encouraged to sign up for the weekly email "Fit For Life" from the bariatric coordinator, Anne Jones RN.We have a wonderful network of professionals in the Capital Region who are dedicated to a good quality of life for post operative bariatric and lap band patients! FYI, Albany Med's WLS support groups are open to the public as well. Again, the WLS support group info line is: 262-2195 for updates/cancellations/reschedules. The bariatric office # is 262-0942 if you would prefer to speak to someone about the support groups available. I know they have a support group on Mondays (possibly every other week???)  during the day I think 2-4. Don't know if that's an option, but certainly something to keep in mind. I hope to see you at some point at one of the support groups. I will be at the next General WLS support group on Thursday 2/7/08 from 5:30 TO 7:30, not 6-8pm. To confirm this time, please call the info line or the office.  I also plan on being @ the lap band support group on Monday 2/11/08  @ 5pm to 6:30pm as well. Both meetings are in the A-1 Clinic waiting area. We had a nice show of people there last Thursday 1/24/08 evening. The more people that attend these support groups, the more we learn from one another.  Knowledge is power.  Knowledge provides hope where perhaps there was no hope before.  Take care & hope to see you @ the meetings. On Mondays @ Albany Med, there is a General WLS Support group held from 2-4 pm in Bldg A, room A303 (3rd floor physician's pavillion entrance). This daytime general WLS support group is held every other Monday, with the next meeting to be held tomorrow, Monday 1/28 and again 2 weeks later on 2/11. I don't know who leads these meetings. I would recommend calling the office @ 262-0942 and ask one of the girls who leads the Monday daytime wls support group meetings. There is also a 1yr or more post op WLS support group on Monday eves @ 6:30pm immediately following the lap band support group @ same location the A-1 Clinic Waiting Area.  The next 1yr+ post op support group will be held on Monday 2/11 in the A-1 Clinic waiting area from 6:30 to 8pm. Again I recommend calling Albany Med's wls support group information line 262-2195 or the office 262-0942 for more information. Thanks. Doirinne
