I'll be the big mouth one--NYU is going to shove the lapband down your throat. I went to 8 doctors in NYC before I met Dr Mitchell Roslin and Dr Shaw--they do the BPD/DS and are amazing. I had Dr Roslin for the RNY and I thank G*d everyday for him!!!

Teresa, thanks.  I am actually leaning towards Dr. Roslin at this point, who I hadn't explored when I first posted this.  He or Dr. Pomp seem like my best choices.  I appreciate the recommendation a lot!

Actually, Teresa, nobody shoved LapBand down my throat. I told Ren I wanted RNY, she asked me why, I gave her my reasons....that was it.

You saw Dr Ren which is a totally different ball game over there.  When I went  Dr Ren was still with Dr Roslin, so NYU was and from all I've heard with everyone but Dr Ren still very anti RNY, as I said Dr Ren is the complete and total exception.

though I COULD be wrong, I believe you're thinking of Dr Kurian... I'm not aware that Ren was ever with Roslin.... but Kurian was with Roslin & Shah up intil mid 2007, when she went over to NYU and joined Fielding/Ren.  Kurian assisted in my DS.

Dr. Ren is did my lap RNY.  I had discussed DS as an option, but they do not do them anymore, for reasons discussed above.  Because I had other, more serious issues to consider, I chose Dr. Ren to do the surgery.  She is a gifted and talented surgeon who also enjoys a good challenge.  She did a great job with my sub-total gastrectomy and RNY, and was able to do both with the lap procedure. I could not have chosen a more brilliant surgeon.  I hope that the person you choose gets the same review from you down the road.  Good luck in your choice and your surgery.
