Hi Everyone: I have a friend who is considering WLS and lives in Albany, NY area.  She made an appointment with Dr. Ward Dunnican.  We can find information regarding the other doctors at this hospital that do WLS and their program but nothing regarding this particular doctor.  Any information or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

When I was making my decision to have WLS I checked out Alb Med's program & he doesn't sound familiar but that was well over a yr or so ago... I suspect he's fairly new there maybe Jamie would know him!! Good luck to your friend!!!

I just had my upper endoscopy this morning with Dr. Ward Dunnican. The procedure was quick and painless, and over before I knew it. Dr. Dunnican had good bedside manner, explained the procedure to me (before I floated into la-la land) and made sure I was ok before I left the hospital. No pain, no discomfort, I don't even remember the procedure much at all. I checked out the Albany Med website about Dr. Dunnican. I do remember Dr. Singh telling me that Dr. Dunnican worked under him during his fellowship @ Albany Med. His specialties seem to be minimally invasive surgeries, gastroreflux disease, hernias, and gallbladder problems. He is fairly new to Albany Med but I am confident that because he worked under Dr. Singh's supervision, he is a good doctor. That is my opinion based on today's procedure. Hope things work out well for your friend. He/She may have been referred to Dr. Dunnican for gallbladder problem, or gastroreflux problems. You would have to ask your friend.  Take care.  Doirinne (healthygirl2b) from Cohoes (Albany) NY Here is a link to Dr. Ward Dunnican's profile on Albany Med's website. http://academic.amc.edu/physicians/index.cfm?event=showPhysi cianDetail&med_prof_rec_no=8054

txbunny930 I do not have an aswer for you today although I will talk to my contacts (AMC bariatric team) to find more hopefully. I know the name is familiar in that he is on the newly formed bariatric committee which I will be participating on at the Albany VA medical center. Many doctors work at the VA and AMC. He must be fairly new and unsure if he does WLS. Right now Dr. Rosati and Singh  http://www.amc.edu/Patient/services/Surgery/Bariatric/bariat ric_home.html (pictured on this weblink) are who I know of doing it at AMC. I'll keep you posted what I hear.  http://academic.amc.edu/physicians/index.cfm?event=showPhysi cianDetail&med_prof_rec_no=8054 This is from AMC's MD directory his bio:

Thank you.  She met with him yesterday and liked his attitude and directness.  Not to mention that he is pleasant to the eyes to look at.  I would really like to see her with a more experienced surgeon w/regards to WLS then he has but this is her choice.  AMC is very well known and tops regarding WLS so she's where she needs to be. If you find any further information, I would very much appreciate it. Again, thank you.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and to help with the link on Dr. Dunnican's profile.  It was so helpful to her.  She has limited access to the internet so I had to do a copy and paste, which helped.  Right now I want her to concentrate on going to support group meetings that are offered there as I still feel she has more to investigate prior to doing this surgery.  Mainly, her relationship with food.  From everything I read about the AMC program, it's fantastic and she's at the right place. Again thank you.  It was so appreciated.
