hi i am 10 months post op and i found out that i am pregnant and im a lil scared for me and the unborn baby . i have talked to my surgeon and an obgyn and they told me that they have had people who hae had been pregnant after surgrey and have been just fine but i havent been taking my vits like clock work i went for blood work last week and am still waiting on the results so i can see if my levels are real low but for the past 3 days i have had stomache pain in my belly button area it feels like gas but i have been able to relieve some of it but its still there.im not in major pain but its still there i dont want to make a big fuss over something thats probably soemthing so silly. i have had other children before surgrey so im not new at being prego lol far from it just new to having a baby after gastric bypass surgery. so if there is anyone out there that has been here already or is going through it now let me now , thanks

First of all CONGRATS Secondly.....................      Vitamins are important whether you are pregnant or not. You will end up ill if you don't take them. i neglected vitamins for a long time and I ended up almost dying from low vitamin levels and no iron. PLEASE...........for your well being, take the vitamins

lisweetie00 Hello, welcome. I can share articles with you not personal experience. Also some sites to visit and join perhaps. Your nutritional status is imperative to you and babies safety! Cutting the honeymoon short with pregnancy may also slow/stop your wt loss from what many report (just to be aware that it is typical). You my need EXTRA protein, Vitamins and minerals. Do not wait to start the suppliments labs can take 2 wk to return and that is a lot of baby forming time that is critical! Are you seeing a CLINICAL NUTRITION MD? A HIGH RISK OBGYN? That would be my recommendation. It is considered safer (research data at: http://www.thinnertimes.com/pregnancy.htm#Whitgrove )  to become pregnant after weight loss surgery than when we are morbidly obese! Many people have WLS to get pregnant as obesity causes so many infertility issues...Beware you are at high risk of pregnancy post-op as estrogen is stored in fat cells and once you start with the rapid wt. loss all that estrogen is mobilized and we become fertile myrtles! LOL...Most surgeons recommend waiting1-2 years to get pregnant, for safety nutritionally to mom and child.

Side Effects AVOID GTT tests!

Exclusion of the pylorus leads to increased symptoms of Dumping Syndrome, which are related to ingestion of foods with a high osmotic load, particularly sugars. Since these foods are undesirable in the weight-control patient, dumping provides negative feedback to limit undesired behavior, and is not considered to be a liability. The rare patient who exhibits dumping symptoms, or reactive hypoglycemia, with other foods should be carefully evaluated for insulinoma.  Glucose Tolerance Testing is contra-indicated following Gastric Bypass:  results will be spurious and uninterpretable, due to the altered anatomy and physiology, and dangerous hypoglycemic reactions, as well as severe dumping syndrome, can occur with ingestion of a large glucose meal. Share the articles with your providers! It is recommended to wait 12-18 months but I have heard of those 1-2 mo out with proper care and monitoring and supplimentations who deliver fine! Your malabsorbtion has slowed I bet at this point as honeymoon is short as 6 mo for many! Be well and keep us posted!
