I met with Dr. Panemanglore yesterday at Ellis Bariatric - and forgot to ask him how long I would be out of work with the RNY, I have been told about 3 - 4 weeks.

I know everyone is different but just a general idea for those that have had this done!

Thanks,

Michelle...

I was out 6 weeks with the open RNY procedure.

Probably best to call the office back and ask what your surgeon recommends.

Good luck MIchelle! Get ready for a life changing experience!

it depends on whether you are doing an open or a lap...I had the open...went back to work after 3 weeks and it was hard...had to work 1/2 days for about two weeks...I was exhausted.  Good Luck...keep us updated. Rosemary

I had LAP RNY & was out 2 weeks. I remember when I told Dr Clarke I wanted to go back after 2 weeks he looked surprise. My reasoning at the time was that I had no intentions of telling my whole floor what I had done but unbeknownst to me the whole darn place knew before I was out of the OR!!!! Good Lord... I hate that grapevine!!!  Anyway - I went back after 2 weeks & my boss said if I ever felt like I needed to leave early I was to get up & leave & just send him an email. The only day that kicked my butt was the first day back other than that everythign was good!! I was tired but it I survived!! I even rode the bus everyday too!!! I guess ultimately it depends on you, your job & how well you heal. I have a desk job with an extremely lenient boss (even though I work for the state) & apparently I heal pretty well!!! Do what is best for you & what you will be most comfy with!!! Good luck!!!

I went back after two, could have used three, but I did what I hadta do.  Dr. Garber said some people can go back after 1, if he said that to me now, I'd roll on his floor in laughter!    Seriously, at the beginning of my first week back, I had to take a cab from Penn Station to B'way & 26th; by the end of the week I was walking both ways.  Three would have been my ideal, but everyone's different.

3 girls at work had RNY this past summer/fall.  None of them were out more than 2 weeks.  We'll all be different and our docs with have their own ideas as to what's best.  I believe with such a surgery they were back too soon, but I'm no doc!  lol xo

I am thinking 3 weeks - I will be operated on a Wed. so maybe the two weeks and go back that following Monday. I of course will do what doc. says, taking no chances.

Thanks for your help!
