Hi everyone, I am looking for any of Dr Singh's patients or anyone who had surgery in Albany NY. I need to find a support group meeting to attend and was wondering when it might be in Albany, where, and can I attend even though I didn't have surgery there? Thanx in advance, Joanie

http://www.obesityhelp.com/member/jamiecatlady5/ Jamie is a patient of Dr Singh.... and I believe she runs (or is closely associated with) the bariatric support group for Albany Med. the above link is her profile... there is a link on her profile page where you can send her a message. She usually makes a post about meetings, but I don't know how much (if at all) she's on during the weekends.  I believe she's a nurse, so there's the whole nursing schedule she has to work around. Just curious.... did you recently move to Scotia?  Just wondering as you just had your surgery last month by a doc who's out by Utica... why did you choose that program over Ellis or Albany Med? Good luck

Hi Joanie,   I am a patient of Dr. Singh's and had my surgery 11/14/07 at Albany Med. There is a support group every other Thursday at Albany Med from 5:30 to 7:30. We just had one this past Thursday so the next one isn't until Jan 24th. But if you need anything in the meantime, feel free to email me.

Jen, I've read your postings and your experiences sound a lot like mine. I finally have a date with Dr.Singh, Feb 6th. And like you I thought I'd be more excited, but it's actually made me start to freak out a little. I'm excited and scared to death in the same thought.  I can see a new life ahead but I'm just so scared about the surgery and life afterwards.  Well wish me luck. Thanks, SLA

Hey SLA, I just wanted to reply to your post. I know how it feels to be where you are, but now that i am on the other side, and exactly 2 months out today, i can tell you, i did alot of worrying for nothing.  My surgery was great, with no complications, and although the 1st 2 days were painful, i made it through and don't even remeber the pain now. Everyone in the hospital was amazing. Every nurse i had couldnt have been better. i really felt well taken care of.  Even though the road to surgery was long and i thought it would never happen, i realize now that after surgery is the real start to the journey. In exactly 2 months i have lost 50 pounds. Never before in my life have i lost 50 pounds, and in such a short amount of time. The compliments i get from people are really motivating, and although my clothes are falling off of me, i still refuse to buy new ones cause i know i wont fit in to them for long! It's the best decision i ever made. and let me tell you, i wasn't nervous the day of my surgery. I was so excited. I knew i was in capable hands with Dr. Singh and they had done so much pre-op testing that i knew if anything went wrong, they were already prepared for it. I would love to hear about your progress and if you need anything please feel free to contact me. I wish you luck! congrats for making a brave decision and sticking with it. You will do great!  Jen

I appreciate all the info everyone has provided. I am indeed aware of the one at Ellis. I was just looking to make some friends in the area who have been through this process as well.  Thank you everyone.  Joanie

Please do not forget that all bariatric patients - regardless of surgeon chosen, are welcome to attend the Ellis Bariatric Support Group meetings. We have always been an open meeting and do provide documentation of attendance for compliance with different surgical program pre-requisites.  The meetings are run by Pamela Spicer and topics vary (based on the "Success Habits of Weight Loss Surgery Patients" and certified by Bariatric Support Centers, International ) and time is provided for small group discussion or networking time at the end of each meeting. The group often has speakers (Colleen Cooke - author, Dr Nydegger ) or special events (September's Walk From Obesity) and members are encouraged to sign up for the weekly email "Fit For Life" from the bariatric coordinator, Anne Jones RN.We have a wonderful network of professionals in the Capital Region who are dedicated to a good quality of life for post operative bariatric and lap band patients! It has been my pleasure to be associated with all of you and lend my continued support. - Pamela

I DO NOT HAVE Dr. CLARKES forum link if anyone has it please frwd to me for refernce! After a little searching around OH, I see that Dr Clarke is not a "sponsor", so he wouldn't have his own forum.... though he works with Lirio, so I'd think it's just as well.
