2 days home and need some help!!
The surgery went great and I have been waling A LOT Which has so helped. Ok so the surgeon said clear liquids until I see him in 9 days. I have been eating SF Popsicles, flavored water, jello and that's about it. The broths make me wanna gag, especially beef broth...it tastes like metal or something. Is there anything else to eat besides jello and popsicles? I am like so nauseous and don't know what to do about it. Thanks...
-Lili
Lili,
Welcome home! I had a similar problem with the popsicles and jello right after surgery...they tasted nasty to me. I drank de-caf tea. I was able to eat cream soups after I got home so that helped. Once you get to low-fat full liquid stage its easier. I had the nauseous stage for a couple of weeks. I think it was recovering from the surgery. Take it a day at a time..don't overdo...it will get better...trust me.

Lili if the nausea is really bad call Dr Cussatti and ask him to call in a script to your pharmacy for Zofran 4mg ODT tablets. They work WONDERFUL!! As far as the clear liquids go....it's the hardest thing to deal with, but remember it's ONLY for 9 days....It will pass by quickly I promise you. Just think in 9 days you'll be on soft foods and that's when the fun begins

Hey Lili,
I was sick of the sf popsicles and jello too. I moved to Twinings English Breakfast Tea...Caffiene free of coarse...and that helped alot. I put one equal in it and it helped to settle my stomach also. Another thing I did was to make my own applesause. It's very easy to make and between that and the tea...I felt alot better.
Good luck...and remember, it's only for a few more days!

Lili,
I just wanted to wish you all the best and glad to hear you are doing well. It takes time to feel back to normal but in time it will come. The walking really does help and glad to hear you are up and doing that.
Tea was awesome for my tummy though it was so warm when I had my surgery and the s/f popsicles when down really good
Not much else when you are on clear liquids! I was on pureed food once I was home.
Keep us posted!
~hugs~

Lili,
That's sounds like what I was allowed to have when I got home!! I gagged on the broths too!! OMG - the beef broth was horrendous!!! To tell you the truth I really only drank lots of water... I just didn't want anything else!! I even have a whole box of sf popsicles still in my freezer & it's been almost 11 weeks!! I just couldn't be bothered!!!
Definitely call your Dr to see if there is something they can give you for the nausea!! I didn't go through that but I know others have!!
Good Luck & keep up the good work!!!
One of the things I did was make homemade chicken "soup". I took 1/2 a chicken put it into a large pot with water, a whole chopped up onion, 6 stalks chopped celery, 4 chopped potatoes, 3 cloves garlic, 1/2 bag baby carrots, 2 leek stalks chopped & seasoned to taste (minus the salt). Let this cook for 3 to 4 hours on low. You can have the broth which is SO YUMMY and if you add rice or noodles your family will have WONDERFUL chicken soup.
I lived on this for a good week post op.
I promise a week from now you'll feel SO much better keep your chin up and keep walking!! And don't forget your water. ALL THE BEST!!
201 pounds lost since surgery!! And I'm 2 1/2 inches taller too!!
And YES I still eat Carbs and Fats but I know what portion control is!!
Surgery Date: 6/5/07

I went to my local Chinese take-out and got Wonton soup withOUT the wontons and scallions and pork....just broth!! It tasted much better than that canned tinny stuff. It was a life saver for me. If it's just liquids, there aren't alof of otions except drinking crystal light and protein drinks....carnation instant breakfast (sugar free) or apple juice....same stuff they gave you in the hospital. Hope this helps and doesn't make you gag.

I had similar reactions to the broth. I ended up buying Progresso soups and just pouring them thru the strainer. Once all the solids were strained out I was left with delicious soup broth that was heavenly.
My doctor allows skim milk during the clear liquids phase, so I drank small cups of that every day.
I also drank flavored waters, ate the SF jello, and the SF ice pops.
Congrats on getting here! You're going to love the results!
