Advice on treadmills.
Hi all. As some of you know, walking has become a big part of my everyday life. The only time I don't is when there is a heavy cold rain. Soooooooo, I was wondering just how cheezy those treadmills with no motors are. Has anyone ever used them? I would only use it during crappy weather as I prefer the outdoors.
I had a big Sears one before surgery and gave it away like a fool. Anyway, it was way too big for my den which is where I would have to keep it because I don't have a basement. Do you think an unmotorized one would wreak havoc on your knees or are they even worth it at all? I saw informercials where they fold and fit in a closet. (Uh-oh, those informercials get me in more trouble.)
My concern is more size than anything else. I wish that they didn't have to be so big and wide.
(I'M TALKING ABOUT THE TREADMILL OF COURSE)
Any suggestions?

Diane,
If its just for rainy days - then go for it. To be able to easily store it and pull it out when you need it is a good idea - Or you can try to do different exercises on rainy days other than walking (to switch it up a bit) then no treadmill needed. Maybe by some 5 pound free weights, do some squats or get that BEAN out!
sending you big hugs,
Britt

You're exactly right., Britt. I could change it up and finally use "The Bean." That poor thing has been deflated and crying at the bottom of my closet! It really is a neat little thing. I don't know what I have against it especially if one has lower and upper back problems.
Santa also bought me the Leslie Sansone walking tapes which I am excited about.

Hi Maryellen,
You are too funny (big and wide)! Lol! I have no experience with the treadmills with no motor. I am very grateful to have mine, despite the fact that it takes up huge space. There are many days, both winter and summer, that the elements prevent me from my walks. If I didn't have the treadmill, I would not have exercised on those days, so it's worth the space sacrifice. I'm sure if you went to Sears or another store that sells treadmills, you could choose and pick between many varities and make a decent decision on one that would suit you best.
Hugs,
Amy

How weird that I opened OH and saw this post. I was going to post that I just bought an elliptical, and to ask you all to wish me luck putting it together!
We have an exercise bike that my daughter uses sometimes; I never really got into it, and she's been asking for an elliptical. We we went to dick's last night (who says my life is boring?) and found one that my son likes too--
So, Diane, any interest in borrowing an excercise bike??
