Hi there! Any peeps on this board from Manhattan? If so, hello and I hope you have a good weekend? Stay warm. It's not fit for man or beast, but I love the weather when it's like this.

Ciao 4 now.

Hi PrettyBaby! LOL! Yeah, working in Manhattan counts with me. What line of work are you in? It is pretty that there's a board for NYers. I like your moniker 'pettybaby'. It was one of a few nicknames my mom had for me-- back in the day when I was a pretty baby [pics on my profile]. But now, not so much IMO. But I will be once again when I'm finally able to afford WLS.

I'll visit your profile today [Sat. Dec. 1st]. Take care & thx 4 responding. Get ready for the snow/sleet/rain this Sunday.

Toodles

Hi JB!  I work w/ workmen's comp policies , just reviewing what should and what should not be on policies for insured's in NY.  Boring.  I'm not sure if i've posted on this forum.  Dang! too many forums lol.  Hmmm , I'm not sure.  My handle is for my 3 yr old daughter.  I don't have anything on page yet.  Speaking of slush , i don't want to go out !  All these hills around here just terrify me.  I'm soo paranoid i'm going to fall.  I wish I can find someplace to move in Manhattan, not washington heights or upper parts of manhattan w/ hill.

OMG!! prettybaby, I know all too well about those steep, stone, multi-tiered stair cases and hills in the Bronx! They're a nightmare. I've always referred to the Bronx as the San Francisco of the east coast! You're right about the upper parts of Manhattan being, well, 'hill-acious'. Honestly in a weird way I'd like to live in the nosebleed section like Fort George/ Hudson Heights/Inwood. Why ? 'Cuz it is [or was] the last bastion of sensible real estate in Gotham. And because I love the Cloisters and the views of the Hudson & Palisades. But I think the secret got out after 1998.

Roughly a year and a half after I moved to NYC in the early 90s, I ended up temporarily living at a former co-worker's [& Coney Island street performer] mother's house. I can't recall the name of the street her mom lived on, only that it was at the TOP of a steep graded road-- at the TOP of one of those friggin' staircases! I remember it was Dec. 1995 and there was snow & ice all over. I don't think any team from 'The City' or the Transit Auth. was sent out to shovel & saly down those steps and pathways leading to subways & bus stops. It was treacherous and I was terrified I'd fall and injure or kill myself. True, I was a big girl back then too, but we're not made of rubber.

I had no choice but to take that route to get the #4 train to the 59th (?) Street stop on Lexington Ave. I'd just started a real paycheck job in Manhattan , L8 afternoon/eve shift, and didn't even have money to afford a cup of chili off of the Wendy's dollar menu [seriously. that's 'Po, worse than poor.] , let alone have money for a cab. Only 3 times, when the weather was horrid and I was just too exhausted, did I get a gypsy cab to drive me from the 174th Street train stop up to my friend's mother's apt. building. I only afforded it because I skipped buying anything like tea of soup or bagel, a couple of days.

Those were tough, heart crushing and humbling times. But only now can I say how surviving through those time taught me valuable lessons. It made me truly thankful and appreciative for what I do have & have achieved & that I have the tenacity to reach my goal(s) no matter what they may be.

I think we all do.

You and your little gal take good care on those steps. And be careful in that slush. Hope to chat again. Toodles.

Ok, you just totally described my neighborhood! Wow, weird lol.  I LIVE on top of one those mountains next to the steps!!  Every Winter I hate and get scared of approaching season.  Imagine being pregnant and having to go down those stepsby yourself !  The 4 train is right there.  The city NEVER comes to sweep or put salt on them, my only other option is going the other route to the train which is guess where?  downhill!  That's right lol.  Either way it's not good.  Imagine having to go through all this being from Miami.  But, I love NYC.  I know all too well about scrimping (single mom, deadbeat dad), hopefully I can get my schooling in gear after wls.  One thing at a time.  JB i didn't get why insurancecover youre wls?

Good heavens I could not imagine being pregnant and having to maneuver those mountains. The knowledge of that alone would be my birth control. Plus those steps are crazy narrow, chipped & falling apart. And what genius designed the hand railings? Notice how low they are? And there should be one going down the center of the stair case. Oh well.......

First I NEVER had a job that provided health ins. Then at that time I was caught in a double edged sword situation. I either made too much(?) money for medi or not enough for another program. So I said screw this system. I don't have ins. anymore 'cuz it's too damned obscenely expensive in NYC. I refuse to pay for a service where I have to pull teeth just to find a WLS-friendly PCP. Then put up a fight to have Aetna or any others approve something when I, and anyone looking at me, can see I'm a candidate for the procedure. They're time wasters & I'm no longer taking NO from anyone anymore.

That's why I'm starting up my own online Pro-WLS biz not only as a way of earning a living, but to fund my surgery that I want to have done in fall 2008. Then once my biz takes off & is successful, I might actually be able to afford health insurance.

That's my plan and it's the only thing that keeps me going. My late hubby, whom was behind me 100% to have gastric bypass told me that "whatever it was that held me down for most of my life would lift me up so I could help myself and others." It took me close to 5 years to figure out what he meant. I figured it out this past August. So in a sense he remains my inspiration too.

Before I go, A Charlie Brown Christmas will be on again tonight @ 8pm on ABC ch. 7. At the same time on ABCs Family channel The Year Without a Santa Claus comes on. Charlie Brown is tradition. You & your little girl will enjoy. Take care prettybaby and I'll be in touch.

Cheers!
