How long do you do the liquid diet ?

Just wondering how long do you do the liquid diet before surgery. Is it just liquid or clear liquid?

In my case I was on the pre-op liquid diet (Medifast) for 12 weeks. Every dr is different... some don't even use liquids. I guess it all depends on the dr & how much you have to lose pre-op!! Good luck!! It isn't the easiest thing in the world, I won't lie, but it is so worth it!!! Oh, they did have me do 3 days of clear liquids just proir to surgery!! So by the time I was cleared for pureed foods post op it had been just about 2 weeks without food!!!! Mashed potatoes & scrambled egg never tasted so darn good!!! Cece

You won't have to have a liquid diet before surgery. Dr. Hill just wants you not to overeat before the surgery. The liquid diet starts after surgery for about 2 weeks.  Christine

I didn't have to do anything before to prep for surgery.  I was permitted to eat until midnight the night prior.  All of the docs are different.
