Anyone have a screen/filter put in before surgery to catch blood clots?
I am having this procedure done the 27th, the day BEFORE my surgery. My surgeon says that this will catch any potential blood clots that may develope in my legs and stop them from traveling to my lungs.
I was just wondering if anyone had this procedure. This is the only thing I am nervous about.

I did not have the filter put in, but my sister has gone in for her consult and he told her that she would have to have a filter put in before her surgery. She has a history of blood clots (always superficial, phlabitis, up to this point) so this is a precaution. I told her better safe then sorry. I believe they are called a vena cava filter if you want to do a little research on line. Good luck to you.

I had a filter put in the day before surgery. Its really not worth worrying about. I went to the hospital at 6 am and i was home by 10 am. You dont even get completelyy put to sleep. It was over and i didn't even know what they were doing. Basically they put it in , through my jugular vein. Good luck, all will be fine.
