Pain Level
I had open RNY and did have the pump where you can give yourself pain medication every few minutes. They told me I wasn't using it as often as I should have so on day two I tried to remember to push the button more often. I did not find the pain to be overwhelming at any point. I did not have the gas pain because I did not have it done laproscopically. Walk most definitely helps no matter how the procedure is performed. Good luck to you

Hi Christine. Yes, everyone is different. I was in more pain than some other people, but then again, morphine doesn't work for me, so I had to have shots of Dilaudid. I continued on Lorabab at home for at least a week. Maybe I was in more pain because I had a revision from band to RNY, or maybe that's just the way I am. I
If you're in pain, definately don't stint on pressing the pump. You can't overdose because it simply won't work if you press it before the pre-set time. It's better to stay on top of the pain than to wait until you're in a lot of pain to try to control it.
You'll do great!
I hate to admit it, but I had no pain with my lapband to RNY revision
I think though that the reason I was pain free is because my surgeon used the On-Q pain buster system on me besides having a PCA. When I was discharged from the hospital I NEVER even took pain meds at home. Guess I was one of the lucky few
