Hernia

I'm out 13 wks and down 65lbs and doing well. Today I went to see my surgeon to find out that I have a hernia.  Is this common after surgery?  Has this happen to anyone else?  Did you wait to have the hernia removed or did you have it done right away.

Hernias are common after this surgery.  I got one about 2-3 months after my RNY, and got 2 more by the time I was 12 months out.  I waited until I was 14 months out to have them repaired at the same time they did my tummy tuck.   It is safe to wait to have repaired as long as it is not causing any pain or strangling.  Mine were very big, so they didn't hurt at all.  The smaller ones can be more painful if the intestine get stuck in hole and causes pain.  If it's not bothering, it's ok to wait, but you should talk to your surgeon about it.
