Oxford Question

Hey guys - it's me again.  I keep asking a ton of questions, hehe, sorry. I was talking to one of the nurses at the surgeon's office and she said that my insurance is usually good at approvals, but sometimes they require a 3 or 6 month diet, randomly.  I haven't heard of anyone who uses Oxford who's had to do this, but now I'm all worried.  So I suppose my question is, for those who have Oxford - the Freedom Plan in particular - have you had to do any sort of supervised diet? Thanks :o)

I had Oxford - freedom - they were TERRIFIC!  As long as you meet the guidelines 40 BMI or 37 with co-morbidities you should be fine :)  hugs, Britt

I keep hearing how lucky I am to have them, so this sort of concerned me.  I have a BMI of 54, so I'm pretty sure I'm within their guidelines.  Thanks :o)

I had Oxford Freedom also.  They did not require a supervised diet and I was approved in about 3 days.  If you want to be sure, call them and ask what your particular plan requires.

I keep meaning to do that but seem to only have time after they're closed.   Thanks :o)

I also have Oxford Freedom Plan Select.  They do not require a supervised diet.  Once you meed the BMI requirements, and it is considered medically necessary, it is ok with them. I was approved in 2 days!  Good Luck Shara

I meet the BMI requirements - 55 - but I don't have anything "wrong" associated with my weight other than GERD.  So I get worried they won't consider the surgery "medically necessary" because of my lack of comorbidities.  Good luck to you, too, with your wl :o)

I have Oxford Freedom as well and they did not require any type of supervised diet prior to approval. My surgeon's office had no problem getting my surgery approved.  Good luck as you start your journey to the loser's bench! Keep us informed on your progress! Hugs, Lisa

All these responses are reassuring, I'm still crossing my fingers though, hehe.  Thanks so much and good luck to you as well :o)
