I did it!  It was absolutely fantastic.  I finished in 5:27:06.  I can't wait to do it again.  Here is a link to my blog which has the whole story if you have time for a long read:  http://losingforlife.com

Marathon Mary! I'm so proud of you!! I was thinking of you and waiting to hear about your experience!!  What an awesome accomplishment!   I am going to start working toward entering the marathon, if not next year, maybe 2009, but that is one of my goals for the future. What's next for you? Sue

You have to stay in shape. My grandmother, she started walking five miles a day when she was 60. She's 97 today and we don't know where the hell she is. - Ellen DeGeneres

Thanks.  I would like to do the marathon again next year, it was such an amazing experience!  If you are serious about doing the marathon I suggest you join NYRR (www.nyrr.org) and do 9 qualifying races with them in 2008.  This will make you automatically eligible for the marathon in 2009.  Otherwise you have to take your chances with the lottery and they get over 100,000 application for 38,000ish spots. Hi Mary, I am very serious about doing the marathon.  I am scheduled for plastics in Jan and once I am cleared to exercise, I will start training.  I've looked into NYRR because I've done some work with the Achilles club, but won't join until after the plastics.  My son has told me that he will run, too.  My goal is to run in 2009 when I will have turned 50. Again, congratulations to you! Sue

Sue, What a great goal for 50!  You should join soon, because if you can get the 9 races in during 2008 you will be automatically eligible.  For 2007 entry this is how the timing worked:

The following groups are eligible for guaranteed entry to the ING New York City Marathon 2007:

• Members of New York Road Runners since January 31, 2006, who completed at least nine NYRR-scored, qualifying races during the calendar year 2006. Following the same timeline, if you join by 1/31/08, you would be eligible in '09 (if you get the races in).  Does Achilles has a guaranteed entry?? Best of luck with the plastics?  Who are you going to and what are you having done? Mary
