Dr. Holover patient here and I agree he is very easy on the eyes.. I refer to him in my blog as Dr. Hottie, lol I have NO regrets. If you have a problem one of them is always on call.. I had a stricture, I went to the ER.. Dr Holover was there in the morning to do an endoscopy and dilation on me. Im seeing him again tomorrow for the 2nd end/dilation. (btw stricture is something that just happens to some people.. its scar tissue that develops around the opening (stoma) from stomach to small intestines.) They are both wonderful surgeons with great bedside manners.

I used Dr Geiss - he only does Lap Band - I don't know what type of surgery you are looking at. Other than NYU - he has the best reputation in the area.

10cc APS band.
Placed w/ .5cc's.
Fills: 11/5/07 ... 2cc's & 6/15/10 ... 1.5cc's & 3/25/11 .... 1 cc

Hi Darice, What kind of WLS are you looking to have RNY or Lap Band?  Also do you care whether it is performed OPEN or Laparoscopic?  Dr. Cooperstone in Syosset has a great following.  I did not use him because he only performs RNY open and I wanted to go Lap if at all possible.  You may also want to reconsider using Dr. Ahmad in Port Jeff as he is out-of-network on insurance and you may find yourself stuck with an out-of-pocket bill you were not prepared for at the end of the ordeal.  I saw Dr. Cooperstone, Dr. Adaniel, Dr. Brathwaite and Dr. Ahmad.  I met and interviewed all 4 surgeons.  I would definitely NOT recommend Dr. Brathwaite, you will NEVER see him again aside from his laying hands on you at the time of your surgery.  He is far too agressive, and has way too many staff members for each thing you need to discuss.  I like the one-on-one attention I got from Dr. Ahmad, however, like I said he is not a participating provider in ANY insurance plans so you have to be able to go out-of-network on your insurance in order to have Dr. Ahmad.  Get ALL of your expected costs up front and in writing if at all possible.  This was something I neglected to do and now I'm stuck.  I didn't think that Dr. A'daniel has enough experience with "special" cases.  He did not make a good impression on me and I was a "special" case.  I would recommend Dr. Cooperstone out of North Shore in Syosset or if you are willing to travel, I hear that Dr. Garber has a great following.  I hope this helps.  Just my 2 cents worth.  You can attend any and all of their seminars for free to get a feeling for each doctor and a full understanding of the procedure they will perform.  Dr. Ahmad does both RNY and Lapband.  Dr. Cooperstone only does RNY and Dr. Alan Geiss does Lap Band.  You have to first decide what type of surgery you intend to have and then proceed from there.  Good luck!

Hi Trish, Thank you so much for taking the time to post such a great response to my qwery. Actually i'm looking to have Lap RNY. I did call Dr. Cooperstone very early on and crossed him off my list because he only performs open. I thought I was going a bit overboard, because I have already attended 3 WLS seminars, and called I don't know how many surgeons from the list of Doctors covered by my insurance. I was not able to get a sence of Dr. Garber or his partner because they were both unavalible that night. I did not like the idea that Dr. Cussatti has his patients do all of the required testing before you get a chance to talk to him and I actually loved Dr. Brathwaite. Although , as a result of this posting, I found out about his lack of contact with patients after surgery. (dont really like that) This message board has been a blessing and folks like you, who are willing to give their 2 cents worth are guardian angels to those of us still researching. I actually hace an appointment with Dr Garber at the end of the month, so I'll see how things go. Again, thanks for your input.

Hi Darice, I had Dr. Garber in New Hyde Park.  I think he is the best (Dr. Holover is wonderful as well). I just passed my second anniversary (October 24th) and have had no regrets at all.

Good Luck making your decision. Best regards,

Stacy

What do you mean you didn't get anything in writting and now you are stuck? My surgeon is out of network for me but said he would accept what my insurance paid other than my deductible. They gave me a copy of a note that said I am responsible for my deductible but it doesn't state the I am NOT responsible for anything else.  I asked them 3 times and they assured me I wouldn't be paying for anything other than that.  I hope so
