Long Islanders - Nut/Psych Suggestions

Hey everyone.  I was just wondering if you guys could recommend nutritionists and psychologists who are WLS-friendly on the Island.  With the psychologist, ones that accept insurance are a plus - I have Oxford Freedom Plan - but I'm not covered for a nutritionist so it doesn't matter.   I'm trying to get this moving along ASAP and my insurance only needs the approval of those two before they give an approval themselves.  Thanks :o)

Hi there. It seems to be the general consensus on the board that most of us had to pay out of pocket for the nutritionist and for me it was a onr time deal. I believe that psych was covered. They both usually are affiliated with the surgeons group or hospital. Try there.

I actually got covered for the nutritionist because of my acid reflux, which was surprising.  My doctor gave me a list of doctors his patients use, but the psychologist that accepts insurance is on vacation and I want to get the ball rolling already.  I found one, but I don't know if she is WLS-friendly or not.  Thanks :o)

Dr. Shapira is excellent and specializes in Bariatric Psych evals.  His number is 631-423-3929 and he accepts almost all insurances.  He is in Dix Hills but will see you in like 2 days. let me know how it goes!!

He's the one who's on vacation, haha.  I'd really prefer to see him, but I want to make an appointment ASAP.  I suppose I may have to wait.

I'm not sure what type of surgery you are having but I REALLY liked the therapist my Lap Band doc sent me to, she works with all his patients. I'm sure she is qualified to understand and help all WLS patients prepare for surgery. Willow Wisotsky in Commack 631-462-0222 It was not covered by my insurance. I think I paid $250.00

10cc APS band.
Placed w/ .5cc's.
Fills: 11/5/07 ... 2cc's & 6/15/10 ... 1.5cc's & 3/25/11 .... 1 cc

I'm going to have to wait even longer to see a therapist if I can't get it covered by insurance - I am bbbbbroke, hehe.  I'm hope I like whoever I see as much as you liked her, and thanks for the suggestion :o)
