Slow Loser (xpost)

So it's official...my surgeon said I'm a slow loser

She said it's nothing I'm doing wrong. It's my age (what!?!?!) and my metabolism. Oh well. I'm actually happy with my weight loss thus far. Since I started my liquid diet, I'm down 47.5 lbs. I'm not unhappy about that.

I'll tell you one thing though, this was the kick in the ass I needed to start exercising. I want to reach my goal and I want to stay there. I can only do that with exercise.

Hi Rachelle. I don't know - I think that you are pretty much on target with weight loss.  But you are right about the exercise. Gotta burn those calories. You'll see a major difference in how much faster the old pounderoonies will drop. Love the attitude.

Thanks Diane. I do believe that exercise will make a big difference. I started on Friday and did 20 minutes on the treadmill. I'm going to do it 4 times a week and keep building on the time and intensity. Once I work up to it, I'm going to add some weight training. The last time I tried, I overdid it a bit.

Rachelle, I was a slow starter too...had a few plateaus, etc.  Stick it out...it will pick up.  I do try to walk 2 miles at least 5 days a week...that helps I think...keep the faith! Rosemary 277/199/140

I always keep the faith, Rosemary! Funny thing is, I haven't had a plateau yet. Even if I only lose a pound, it's still a pound. I picture a pound of butter and it makes me realize how much I'm really losing.

Definitely going to do some walking at least 4 days a week.

you lost almost 50 lbs in 3 months??? when were you able to do that before? i know for me before surgery i couldnt lose even 2 lbs so from where i stand you are doing excellent... it is true however that people lose at a slower rate as a matter of fact men lose more then women from the get go ... the bigger you are the faster you lose ....age has a lot to do with it... but i believe your right on track and your surgeon is nuts to say your slow... i think your doing a wonderful job keep up the good work and follow what they say and the possibilitys are endless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My thoughts exactly Stacy!! I used to be a big Weigh****chers follower and it would take me 7-8 months to lose 40 lbs. By that time I was frustrated and hungry.

Not the story now. I'm down nearly 50 lbs. and I plan on continuing straight to goal!

Thanks for the positive note hun!

Ditto to what Stacy said, but I also did not lose as fast as others. In the end, I am grateful (although it IS frustrating) because, as you said, it makes you look toward your behaviors and as a result you mature around the ways in which you behave!

Something that really helped me out (but it may be a bit early on for you to be considering this) is the South Beach Diet. What I learned from doing that is that carbs really can slow down/prevent weight loss.

Here's the thing Rachelle: You have been through a lot of physical changes and challenges over the past years and your body wants to have some control. Just keep doing your thing. You are already so much better off than you were this time last year, and the same will be true next year.

What are some of your NSV's? Maybe next to the scale you could put a daily list of NSVs to keep track of?

Keep on baby. You're doing great.

xoxo

Thanks Amy! You are absolutely right. I need to look at the NSVs..like the fact that most of the time there is no pain in my knees, or that I'm wearing 16W now, or that I can walk further without getting winded. It's all good. And I'm proud of my loss so far!

Many of the SB meals have meat in them, and I'm a veggie, so they won't work for me.

I'm so grateful to have all of you as my inspiration. Thank you so much for such a positive response.

I'm glad to hear that you are aware of all the NSV's. Go girl. Just another thought on the SB thing: The principle is the same, whether you eat meat (or meat substitutes) or not which is that low carb is much more condusive to weight loss than not. Are there ways in which you can do that in the veggie context?
