I can't believe it Today I was to start my sugar free full liquids, so thinking I was being a good girl, I got Lactaid Milk because after all it was on my nut's list and I mixed some of my protein powder into 4 oz, mixed well and sipped it over 20 minutes....WELL.....all of a sudden my heart starts to race, I get a small amount of the Hersey squirts, and then I have to lay down and I fall asleep for 2 hours I feel like an RNY failure Now I'm afraid to try anything else and will probably put myself on clear liquids for another week! Thanks for letting me vent

Yuck! I am sorry you dumped. Maybe you can try soy milk instead?

This process is not about punishing yourself. It's about learning what works and what doesn't. How could you have known that Lactaid would make you dump? Do not banish yourself to liquids for another week just beacuse you learned something. You are doing great. Try soy milk, skim milk, or even jus****er. You won't know till you try.

It's ok. WE all make mistakes, and if we're smart, we learn from them.

Hugs,
Amy

You must remember everyone is different and not just sugars can cause the dumping. I am now over 4 years out and still dump occaisonally. And for me anything greasy will make it the worst. Also don't think of it as a failure, but your tool is working. Also if it happens on something that we probably shouldn't have had anyways it corks as a big plus for me to not do it again.

Good luck

Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement I'm feeling better today and a little more confidant I think. I think my mind thinks that I still have a lapband in me Guess I need more time to readjust my lifestyle and learn to do things in a TOTALLY different way. And reevaluating things this am...I did tell my surgeon to fix me so I dump as I was being wheeled into the OR...so guess I got my wish

I had to share this with you.... Last week I had a cup of Kashi Cereal (it is high in protein and the only cereal I eat) but my co-worker had lactaid milk that she let me use... Now mind you, I have used skim milk or 1% on many occasions and I have NEVER had an issue... I ended up in the bathroom with the trots all afternoon.  So.....  Maybe we are the odd ones that Lactaid bothers... I thought that the process of removing the sugars from it was supposed to be good for us....  I guess NOT! So.... Try the REGULAR Skim Milk and see how that goes.... I would not go back to just clear liquids.  We all have our ups and downs and it is important to try new things and find out what works best for your body.   I was just speaking to an RNY friend who had surgery a month after I did and they still can't tolerate Eggs.... I JUST started tolerating them myself about 2 months ago.  I know people that have been able to eat them from the start.... It is different for all of us.  You have NOT Failed at all.   Hugs!!!! Lori

  Peace & Blessings....    Lori

As the others have mentioned, everyone is different.  I am 4 1/2 years out, and have never dumped from skim milk.  I never thought to try Lactaid, though.  I also never had issues with eggs.  I have, over the years, dumped about 4 or 5 times a year, never really being sure what the cause is, other than if I get stupid and try to do sweets on an empty stomach.  I still have issues with dry chicken and well done steak or hamburger.  Also. spaghetti at times, but all other pasta seems to be ok.  I think my issue is maybe texture rather than chemical for the most part.   Take your time and don't try new things away from home.  My husband is just almost 2 months out, and had trouble with eggs last night, and has been eating scrambled and egg salad for a few weeks.  Go figure.

Hi Jane, Don't go to clear liquids--your body needs protein at this point.  Maybe skim or soy milk will work for you, or you'll need to do protein w/water.  At first I only drank lactaid, which I didn't dump from, but I didn't need it either!  I'm able to drink skim or 1% milk. Also, what everyone else said about things changing are true--I dumped on fruit--but now I don't.  I have no explanation whatsoever. As a fellow ex-bandster, I can tell you that I eat MANY more foods thatnI could w/the band, including chicken, tuna, eggs, cantelope.  As you know, I didn't have a too-tight band, it just didn't work w/my body.  Go figure! hugs,
 Karen

Hi Karen

I actually found a protein drink that I can have without having to dump!! EAS low carb drink is agreeing with me thank goodness!! I see Dr Cussatti tomorrow and can't wait because hopefully he advances me to puree food. I'm also looking forward to getting back to work next week. I went back to school last week, but the mind is still alittle "mushy" from anesthesia But it's waking up more and more everyday That's great to hear that you can now eat food that you couldn't when you were banded. I can't wait to have an egg again....it's been 3 1/2 years since I had an egg
