Hello Everyone,
This is my first time posting in in the New York forum.
I will be going to NY at the begining of next month. I'm so excited. I will be staying at the HIlton Garden Inn Time Square. Is there anything close by that I can do for fun after work. I woul really like to see a broadway show but I also don't want to have to go that far. Since it will be just me.
I'm from Arizona so I know it's a completly different life style and I'm a little nieve of things.
I need to know anything you want to tell me. Honestly all I know about NY is what I have seen on TV. Some good some bad. I don't know what to expect, what to wear what not to wear. I've never been this far from home and I want to make sure I'm prepared about everything.
Are there any great websites to figure out the subway system. I've never been on one.
I heard taking a cab is pricey is that true? Am I better off taking the subway.

Thanks for helping...

The weather should be great! There is so much to do. I'd search the web and plan out somethings that intrest you. I'd definelty take in a show if you can. Everything is pretty accessable and not far by taxi, foot or subway :) I am from LongIsland ... but I am sure that some great NYC'ers will offer advice. have fun!  hugs, Britt

Well, everything for tourist is right there~ just take a walk! MTA subway info can be found here: http://www.mta.info/nyct/maps/submap.htm I'm sure you'll enjoy your visit!! Me, i've lived in this madness for years, & frankly find it annoying & exhausting living here! Have fun!

Hi Lorrie, I live about 30 min. outside of NYC  but I've never been into the city, mainly due to my knees being so bad, can't do a lot of walking.  I'm waiting to get enough wait off so I can walk without the pain.  I really can't wait to just spend dayssssssss there lol  My Girlfriends from Calif are gonna come next year and we are all gonna go together!   Why are you coming out alone?  is it work related ???   I wish I could offer to meet up and show you some NY fun but I can't.  I can only wish you the best.  My son's went up there and basically they did a lot of walking and took buses they had a BLAST!   Sandra

Absolutely plan to take in a show.  You can get half priced tickets at the TKTS booth which is on W. 46th St. between Broadway and 8th. Go there on the day of the show for tickets.  Since you're staying in Times Square, you can do it all on foot. Cabs are expensive and it really depends on where you're going in the city.  The subways are dependable and fast and there are alot of subway lines in midtown where you're staying. As for dress, it's pretty casual in NYC now. - pants, skirts etc. are okay, even at the theater.  The weather next month will be chilly so a sweater and a coat are safe bets.  If you get too cold you can always buy a scarf from a street vendor for $5.   Have fun.
