Caffeine or No Caffeine: A Poll
Hi all,
Initially, I cut out all caffeine like my Nut said we should. Eventually it worked it's way back into my daily intake.
I have read many things on caffeine and the majority state the following:

Here's what researchers have found:
- Caffeine may act as an appetite suppressant. However, while studies have shown that some people eat less after consuming caffeine, this effect is brief — not long enough to lead to significant weight loss.
- Caffeine may increase your body's ability to burn calories. Caffeine is thought to stimulate thermogenesis — one way your body generates heat and energy from digesting food. However, caffeine's role in thermogenesis probably isn't enough to result in significant weight loss.
- Caffeine acts as a diuretic, which means it causes an increase in the amount of urine you excrete. This water loss may temporarily decrease your body weight.
Hi Karen - I haven't any caffeine since 9/1 which was a few days prior to my surgery. I don't know if I miss it... though I do know I miss my diet pepsis. It's the carbonation I miss. Being new to the surgery I do not know if not having caffeine has or hasn't affected my weightloss. I'm at 29lbs now. I'd be interested to see other people's responses on this issue.
Enjoy your day.
Jessica

P.s Not only do I drink coffee I drink Starbucks bad bad me
Hugsss Lori,
I have to say: before having WLS, I dieted (who didn't?!?!) and successfully lost weight. I believe that caffeine HELPS with weight loss (for me; I'm not speaking for everyone!)
It makes me feel energized plus I truly believe it suppressed my appetite.
Of course, if you ask my Nut, she will strongly disagree. The key is that you have to increase water intake when you have caffeine (shhhhhhh, I don't always do that!)
Keep up the good work! How much are you down now?
Hugs,
Karen
Hi Karen!
Yes, I drink caffeine everyday - 20 ounces of Coffee and 9.5 achieveone
Honestly - I do not think it has affected my weight loss - I enjoy it and it keeps me sane.
(I avoided it for the first 6 months post op)
Now I can't live without it :O)
Hugs,
Britt

Britty,
EXCELLENT point about keeping you sane; that can only help in your weigh loss and maintanance. (I know I spelled that wrong LOL)
I avoided it for at least 3 months but then I went to the OBHelp NY Christmas party...and I blew it that night!! LOL what a bad influence we are on this forum hehehe.
I just got your email; I'm in Manhattan all weekend going to school so I've been crazy-busy. I'll gladly come by to get it; let me know when. You're a doll for doing the book for LIPO!
Hugs,
Karen
