Good Sam Support group *** anyone else feel they should be more often?
hey there Jessica,
That would be so awesome if you would come... would be wonderful to met another OH poster! The next meeting is...Oct. 24th and its at 7pm. They are talking about having a 1 hr. meeting before the support groups that will be an "Education" class. Sounded sorta like a behavior modification deal to help understand the tricks of the trade kinda sorta? LOL at any rate.. i'm all over it... will be more opportunity to get to know others of like mind and surgeries and learn more!
The question was asked if it was ok to go to the meetings even if you didn't have surgery at Good Sam and the instructor said everyone was welcome so hope you can make it.
Sandra
Hi again Sandra, It would be great to meet you too. There is another meeting at Panera Bread in Sayville usually the 3rd Tuesday of the Month. What town are you in now? I'm in Islip, so both meetings are both close to me. I had my surgery in Mercy in Rockeville Centre and their meetings are the 2nd Tuesday of the Month. I haven't been to any meetings yet but I plan on showing my face next month at all three meetings. One can never have enough support. (I'm home now 3 weeks from the hospital and back to work 2 weeks already.) I'm doing well physically but the mental hunger has started knocking on my door. So I want to get my butt into these support groups and it'll also be nice to meet some other people from this site. I am writing down the date. I want to be there. Where in the hospital do they have these meetings. Let me know when you have a moment. Thank you and I look forward to meeting you.
Jessica

Jessica, I'm not real familiar with most of New York but I read your post to the hubby and he says I need to mention that the Good Samaritan is in Suffern. He says Islip is in Long Island right? We are on the other side of the Hudson in Rockland Co. I'm actually in Pomona about 15 min from Good Sam. Is that still close enough to you?
I'm so glad to hear that you are doing so well. Wow.. back to work after a week. Your a "real woman" LOL I too experience the head hunger more than the actual real hunger. Is good to hear others and how they deal with this issue! Sandra
Oh well now... suffern, suffolk could be the same.
That's weird, we have a good samaritan hospital in west islip about 10 minutes from where I live. I was going to ask you where Pomona was as it didn't sound like a long island town but I thought perhaps it was a code name for a city...LOL. Oh well I guess we're not meeting too soon then. We still have the OH message boards. I'm off to bed. I'll talk to you soon.
Jessica

Hi Jessica,
The support group at Good Sam Hospital in West Islip meets every other Sat morning from 9 am-10:30 am. The next meeting is Sat Oct 6th. Its open to anyone, pre-ops, post-ops etc regardless of where you had your surgery or which type of surgery.
If you have any questions, feel free to email me.
I agree Sandra. It would be nice if the meetings were at least every other week. Once a month just doesn't seem like it's enough. Even if there wasn't an education piece, just getting to talk to others would be great. And it was great meeting you too. I had a really good time talking with you and getting to know you a little bit. Call me any time. Would love to meet you for lunch or something and totally confuse another waiter. Two WLS people at one table can really screw with a waiter's sensibilities. LOL.
