everyone at work is getting a flu shot today and I refused it because I have my surgery in 1 week.  I got to thinking though, will it spread to me if they get the flu from the vaccine.  I will be so mad if it gets cancelled.  Jaimee Sickly I'm Mad As Hell

You CANNOT get the flu from the vaccine. The vaccine is composed of isolated proteins found in the virus' shell, but has no active viral DNA. You can get a MILD, flu-LIKE syndrome for a day or two as your immune system reacts to the proteins, but it IS NOT THE FLU. You should probably get the shot - the last thing you want is to catch the flu during your early recuperation. It would make it very hard to get in enough fluids!

Good Morning Jaimee, Congratulations on your quickly up and coming surgery!  My thoughts are with you!   As for the flu shot, I would call my Surgeon's office and ask the gals there to ask your doc if this is something you should do or skip.  You want to have complete peace of mind going into surgery. The other two posters are correct.  You cannot get the flu from the flu shot.   If I were you, I would call your surgeon and ask if it's ok for you to get the shot today.  Better to be safe than sorry. Joanne
