6 week update

Well friends, Today was my 6 week check up and my Doctor is very happy with me.  I am down 4 more pounds which again is different from my scale here at home.  I thought I was at 340 and I'm at 342.  Just goes to show you I need to stop weighing myself at home!  hehe! At any rate Dr. Rivera says I'm doing above average in losing and until I get to the point that I'm not losing or even starting to put on a couple pounds I don't have to have a fill.  I now have to begin "weening" myself off liquid calories ( the protein drinks) and have protein bars as a snack inbetween meals.  How is that going for everyone else?  Seems to me like that is going to be hard to get in enough protein but I am really going to give it a shot.  I'm excited about my progress even though I made some bad choices last week.  I feel focused and I know its all part of my learning process.  Also, I'm having some constipation issues.  Can anyone recommend something for this??  I guess I could get a fiber suppliment?  I'm drinking the 64 plus ounces of liquids a day so I know I'm getting plenty of liquids and I'm meeting my protein and calcuim requirements but I'm still having trouble with the "plumbing"  eeks! I realize this is lots of info. but I figure if I can now openly tell how much I weigh guess I can bare all? hahaha!   Hope everyone had a good weekend and is enjoying this wonderful fall weather.  I love New York in the fall! Wow its gorgeous!   (California girl) Sandra

Sandra, you are doing great!  Congratulations!  Also, I think it's great that you 'came clean' with your weight.  I think it helps us personally to do this and it also helps those like me get a perspective on how others are losing/how fast, etc.  It's an inspiration!   As for constipation it will be interesting for me afterward on how that goes.  I've had trouble in the past with it and no matter how much water I drank it didn't help.  The only thing that eventually helped was getting in enough vegetables.  I know the 'space' issue in the pouch needs to have lots of protein so I'm curious as to how this will all play out so I'll be able to get in enough veggies, too.

Thank you Lisa and Creeklady!  I am very encouraged today!  Good luck to both of you on your up and coming surgeries!   I diffinately think that veggie are the key, Creeklady.  As well as fiberous fruit.  I guess I will just try to get more in this week if that doesn't work then I will get some kind of suppliment.  Thanks for responding to my post u2!  Sandra

Way to go Sandra.  You're doing great!!!  Keep it up.  I had the lap RNY done on 9/4/2007 and I'm still on pureed foods.  I go back to the dr. on 10/18/2007 and will be able to start solids at that time so I'll be weaning in a few weeks.  I'm actually a little scared at that thought.  I guess with plenty of chew chew chewing and eating slowing it'll go just fine.  I cannot give you any suggestions regarding the fiber.  I'm not on any veges and only some fruits that I can either puree or put in with my protein shake.  Perhaps check with your nutritionist, I'm sure she has some good ideas about the plumbing issues.  (A little pureed prunes perhaps? or 4 oz of prune juice should do the trick every few days.) Enjoy your weekend too.  The fall weather has left the building down here and it looks like Indian Summer is trying to make a come back. Good Luck. Jessica

Thank you so much Jessica!   Your just a few weeks out and all is going well, I wouldn't worry too much about the solid foods.  You are on the right track and it seems that is one of the important parts of this, knowing to chew chew chew and sip sip sip!  I was scared too and with each day that passes its gotten less scary and more exciting!   Thanks for the suggestion on the fiber, I really do think I have to eat more veggies!  I'm working on that!   Sandra
