Hi Michelle,
Welcome to the loser's bench!! I had the RNY done on 9/4/2007 and I still have some pain on my left side. I've been able only since the past 2 nights to sleep more comfortably on either side or my back. I can walk comfortably too but if I do too much walking I can feel the strain across my stomach and in my left side. Every day is getting better and I haven't had to take even a tylenol since Monday. I went back to work on Monday after only 13 days out so I was in a little bit of pain that day. Hang in there. The pain does get better each day. Good Luck!!!

Hi Michelle,
I also had the same open rny with Caruana and I was in horrible pain for about 7-10 days. I remember I couldn't even stand up straight. Trust me, it will get better everyday. I slept in the recliner for about 3 weeks and then the bed. I have no pain now in my tummy.
I do however have lower back pain that I can't seem to shake!! Hope you heel up fast!! Good Luck!!

Hello Michelle,
Welcome to the loser's bench!!!
I had a lap, RNY on 9/11. My pain got a little better each day and I would say just this passed Wed (8 days out). I was able to start getting in and out of bed on my own. Just last night I was actually able to lay on my side for a bit.
I found that the more I moved the better it was. I too have back pain at night, but again, since last night I had a better night since I was able to roll onto my side.
I wishe you a speedy and uneventfull recovery!
Hang in there, just like evryone says IT DOES GET BETTER!

I had my surgery 5/10...and it took a good 6 weeks before I could roll around in bed semi-comfortably. Just don't overdo...just rest and recover. I had hip pain for awhile after surgery, but I blamed it on the hospital bed, lol...had to sleep on my back for three nights and I am NOT a back sleeper. I really didn't try any extensive exercise until my second visit with the doctor (about 7 weeks after surgery). It will get better every day and welcome to the loser's bench!
