My morning mini-meltdown!!

I just got a call from the surgeon’s office. Apparently my ultrasound Friday showed an enlarged spleen & now I have to have a CT Scan w/Contrast this Friday. I also have to see a hematologist (I’ll know when that is tomorrow). The nurse at the surgeon’s office was with patients so I didn’t get to talk to her so I decided to look it up on WebMD – BIG mistake!!! Everything that came up was Leukemia, cancer or mono!!! Needless to say I had a mini-meltdown!! I called my PCP Office & talked to one the nurses there & she put my mind at ease and said it could be a few things but it could also be what it is but I still needed to share with someone!!! I guess I’m kind of ok now – not as “scared” as I was when I saw the results on that dumb website!! The nurse, my pcp office said that it should put my mind at ease that the surgeon’s office is being so thorough!! Better to know now than be surprised afterwards!! Off course I was crying by the time I could get any words out. She said she’s gonna tell my dr I called & let her know what’s going on – she does have the test results too so she said not to be surprised if she calls just to help put my mind at ease too cus Dr B is like that. I really like them!! So – there’s my excitement for the morning!! UGH!!!!  Cece

Hi CeCe, Sorry to hear about what your going through and my heart goes out to you.  I'm glad to hear you are knowing a measure of peace about it all and I will hope with you that it is something simple and can be teated quickly and you will be back to normal in no time!  

Thanks!!! I have found peace in it. The truth is no matter what it is they have found it & can fix it if need be!!! I was talking to a very good friend of mine a while ago & he said his son has had an enlarged spleen his entire life!! So like the nurse at my pcp's office said... It could just be that I am the lucky owner of an enlarged spleen!!!! She doubts it's anything serious!! Fingers crossed anyway!!  Cece

Hi, I'm so sorry that you are going through this; and I know EXACTLY how you feel----all my pre op testing was done when I had my "routine" Abdominal Sonogram to check for Gall Stones before my surgeon did his thing--That way he would know in advance if he had to remove my Gall Bladder at the time of surgery. Well, my Gall Bladder was fine---but the sonogram showed "an abdominal mass that could not be differentiated." I went through a CT Scan of the Pelvis with Contrast and an MRI. Still couldn't tell what it was. I felt fine---everything else was perfect!!! My mind was going WILD!!! I'm an RN so I knew the ramifications of the worst possible scenario. My surgeon as cautious as he was, put me in contact with a GYN Oncologist. He was very noncommital. They agreed to work together. The Oncologist would remove this "THING" as I so fondly began to call it; send a frozen section down to the lab while I was on the table---if it was benign, my surgeon would take over and do the By Pass. If not, the By Pass would not be done; and a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy would be done immediately. When I went under that afternoon, my fate truly was in God's hands. The first thing I said when they woke me up was,"Did you do the My By Pass?' (as I groped aimlessly for my abdomen !!!!(LOL) It turned out that "THING" was an Ovarian Cyst that was successfully removed before my By Pass was done. So I got a "Two for One" deal.   Try to relax, as you were told previously, it could be many things. They will take care of whatever it is---and off to the Loser's Bench you'll go!!!!  Please keep me posted on the outcome!
