My first screw-up

On Saturday I went to a bar mitzvah, and they had one of my favorite foods there.  It's kind of like a stew that cooks in a crock-pot overnight.  It's really soft beef, beans and some potatoes. I ate way  more than 1/2 cup, and felt really really full afterwards-- for the rest of the day  so I stuck w/liquids for 48 hours because I know I probably pissed off my pouch. Can one bad episode make my pouch stretch??? I feel like such a jerk--here I am not even tempted by sweets, and I pigged out on real food!  I wouldn't beat myself up so badly about it; I'm just scared that I stretched my pouch.  I guess I have to realize that just because I can doesn't mean I should.  I don't get full from "a bite or two" as some others do, so I really have to be careful. Thanks,

It's called cholent. Isn't it amazing stuff?! You'll be just fine, I swear. I just really f*cked up the other night...and my pouch is still pissed at me. It happens. Just take it easy and stick to foods you know you can digest. For me, that's string cheese. No matter what, I can always have cheese. You will be FINE! Good luck!

You are only human. You now know better...so next time you'll do better. It takes an awful lot of abuse to stretch the pouch. Don't stress and just begin anew like you've been doing. (((HUGS))) Diane

Thanks, Dianae & Shira.  Yup, stuffed myself on cholent.   It really scares me that I don't feel full on 1/2 c of food...that's where the veggies come in, right? I was afraid I was going to need Stomapx at 2.5 months out!

Karen, We all do it...more than once! And NO our pouches are fine! Screw-ups help us to learn the limits of our pouch and stoma...and it's a good thing because it reminds us of how we have changed inside. There were times where I felt I could eat wayyyy too much and did. I felt like crap after! It's a learing experience. I NEVER EVER got full from a bite or two......or three for that matter. But I did learn what/how much is going to make me feel sick. I still get sick from many foods, ones high in fat. I recently got violently sick when I had full-fat cheese at a party! I have only had light/low-fat cheese in my home. This is a JOURNEY, and there will be peaks, valleys, and bumps on the way. Hugs, Karen

Karen, Yes, you overenduldged - been there - done that.  We are human! What matters is that you learn from this. Remember how you felt - do you want to feel that way again? Probably not. This is a learning process - it  doesn't happen overnight (too bad - right?)  You didn't stretch out your pouch - you are fine.  hang in there!  hugs, Britt

Nothing - tastes as good as it feels -to be at my ideal weight :)

Karen, Don't be so hard on yourself...you are human.  This whole process is about learning your limits.  You are doing great...keep up the good work. Rosemary

Yup, what everybody else said, you didn't stretch it.  Now you know that uncomfortable overfull feeling and hopefully it will stop you next time.  I hate that feeling, but I still have moments where one mouthful more seems so good. I always go back to my normal eating (measuring meals and such) because no matter what I might have eaten too much of, the most important thing for me is to go back to eating the right way and not using this as an excuse to fall by the wayside (which I did in my pre-WLS life). Continued good luck to you! Sue

You have to stay in shape. My grandmother, she started walking five miles a day when she was 60. She's 97 today and we don't know where the hell she is. - Ellen DeGeneres

One of the resaons you did not fillup on 1/2 cup is the fact the both the beans and the potatoes kind of slide right through your pouch into your intestines....  Now if you had 1/2 cup of just the beef you probably could not have eaten that much.  I have found out that it depends on what you consume.  Don't sweat it sweetie.. all will be fine. Hugs... Lori

I think that we have all been there before.  You didn't stretch your pouch.  I too am not tempted with sweets but sometimes overdue it with real food.  Take this as a learning experience and tomorrow is another day. Hugs, Patty
