Wondering About My Weight Loss

Hi Everyone: As I have mentioned before, I was banded on 8/13.  I have lost 13 or so lbs to date (started loosing before surgery).   I have no restriction right now.  I have the AP Band - and I went for my post-op just this Monday.  Everything seems to be good according to the nurse who checked my esophogram and incisions. However,  I see here that people post great great numbers in terms of weight loss.  I know its only since 8/13 that I got banded and I'm really restricting myself because I will won't be feeling much until the first fill.

This AP band is larger and thus, automatically less restrictive from the beginning until it is filled. Do you guys think 13lbs is too little to have lost thus far?   I kind of feel like it is but I could just be impatient.  My first fill won't be for another 3/4 weeks which blows - that also adds to my impatience.

What do you guys think?

Thanks

Not at all.  I had my surgery on May 10, 2007 and on my 1 wk post op I was down 10.6lbs.  Now,  It's been about 3 months and I am down a total of 35lbs.  I personally think your doing very well.  Just remember smaller meals spread over the day.  Protein and veggie first.  Everything else second.  Drink as much water as possible.  And if you can walk (only after doctor approval) about 20 mins. day.  Good luck...

Thanks for responding.  That actually makes me feel a whole lot better because as i said, there is no restriction yet.  I'm on my own really. :) good luck to you also!  can't wait to be at 35 lbs! /n.

I know it's hard, but try not to compare your weight loss with others. Everyone loses at a different rate. I think a 13 pound weight loss is great in 2 weeks! Keep up the great work and try not to be impatient. Also, try (and I know this is hard) not to weigh yourself too often. I know we all get obsessed with the scale, but sometimes it is discouraging.

Hang in there, my friend! You're doing great! Lisa

The weight drops alot faster if you are heavier to start with.  239 isnt that high.

Herb: that is good information.  I actually remember knowing that before (years ago) when I lost weight on my own in the early 90s.   Thanks for the response! /nilsa

An improtant rule with surgery is no to compare yourself with anyone else.  Each journey and weight loss is going to be different.  Keep doing what you need to do and you will have success. LisaMarie

everyone is different with the weight loss .... number one if your not losing lbs your losing inches you dont lose both at the same time... and number two if you do what your surgeon says its infailable just be patient you will get there everyone goes at their own pace so try not to compare... sometimes slower is better then faster.....
