Tomato Soup?

Last week when I went to the nut. she said that tomato soup (Campbells) was fine for me to add to my new "full liquids" diet.  I did...I had it twice last week.  Today I decided to have some more and when I went to open the can I realize that the ingredients read: tomato puree, water, high fructose corn syrup.... and the label says 12 grams of sugar in a 1/2 cup of concentrated soup.   I didn't have any trouble with it when I ate it last week, and I'm thinking it's because by the time you add 8oz's of milk to the concentrate and then only eat 1/2 a cup of it, you're really only getting about 5 grams of sugar from the puree itself.  Does that sound about right?   Did anyone ever have a problem with tomato soup?  It just freaked me out when I saw the stupid high fructose corn syrup on the label!

Yeah, the thing that sucks is that HFCS is in nearly everything on the market today! Being a label shopper I find these things out all the time. It bums me way the heck out! I've been sad to find certain things have HFCS in them. However, it's all for the better that I not eat those things, right? I hear 'ya, though. I didn't eat tomato soup. Colleen told me that organic was healthy, as far as sugars go, so I looked for organic soups that had less sugar. I founf Pacific brand soup roasted red pepper and tomato soup. WHOO! That is tasty. Wegmans has it in their Nature's Market section. It has less sugar and organic ingredients. So, if you're craving tomato soup, you could try organic soups. Or just find one with less sugar, which (let's be honest) is difficult unless you make it yourself. I find myself doing that more and more because I just don't trust what's out there on the grocery store shelf!! Hey, good luck. Jen Halliday  :wave:

Thanks Jen.  I'll have to find the organic stuff.  That one with the roasted peppers sounds wonderful!  I'm just trying to get thru to the 10th of September on purees and it's difficult to find things that I can have that don't have dangerous ingredients.
