Okay can someone please tell me if you must have your gallbladder removed during the RNY? I was told by a friend of a friend  that the only way to do the surgery was to have this removed also she herself never had the surgery but is a RN.  Also is it common to get (this is gross) alot of gas when taking the Medifast? I am not on it yet but was told this is a common side effect.

You guys are the best thanks for the information.

Ohh a question I know the answer to . No, you don't have to have your gallbladder removed during the RNY.  I know if you have stones ahead of time they might require you to have it out beforehand or during.  I have gallbladder issues but they don't think I have stones (I'll probably be checked before the surgery).  They said I might have to have it out later on because change in diet really affects the gallbladder to where it might create stones at some point. Not familiar with the Medifast though.

Ahhh & I can answer the Medifast question... Personally I do not have problems with gas. I have been on it now for 5 weeks & so far no problems!! If it happens to you there are ways to combat the problem so don't let it scare you away!!! Don't let these friends of friends scare you away either!! Come here... we'll set you straight!!!

Hi, I'm 8 days post-op with bypass, I never had any trouble with gallbladder, but prior to surgery I did have ultrasound just to be sure. So I didn't have my bladder removed.  What you need to do is research every bid of infomation that is for the type of surgery you are preparing for and of course speak with your Dr about your concerns.  Some people who haven't had the surgery appear to know all the answers, I'm not saying this to be mean, but you need to not listen and gather info from groups, your DR and the people who are involved with your surgery planning  Good luck in your plans

No you dont have to have it removed. However many Dr's do take it out during RNY.

Some people I know needed it out and other still have it.  If it looks good like mine did...it was left.  But then I had the LB.

Not to worry. I still have my GB intact. Just listen to your surgeon before you take what people say as the gospel. Don't know nuttin' about Medifast...sorry. Take Care~~ Diane

This is a decision made between you and your surgeon at the time of surgery.  SOme take it others do not.  I had mine removed a couple of years before my rny.  Let me tell you the pain of gallstones is no joke.  I am happy to have given up my gallbladder!  Good luck. LisaMarie

I had surgery on May 7th and I still have my gallbladder.  I do have to take medication for 6 months to prevent gall stones though.  Sorry, I have had to experience with the Medifast, can't help you there.
