Question about sweating
I am not sure if I am posting this in the right place, I was recently prescribed metformin due to high gloclose levels, it was the first time I saw this endo , I have a follow up with her not till October, I have to make an appt with my normal PCP to wrap up the final paper work, Anyway this is my question, recently I started sweating a lot, doesn't matter what I am doing, I can be sitting on my couch with the AC on and just start sweating, its getting so bad that all underneath my hair is actually soaked. It just happened again and this time when I stood up I actually felt lightheaded, I made myself an english muffin and ate that but I still feel weird, Also since on the metformin my levels have been fine or atleast nothing any of the Drs have called me about. Anyway does this sound like anything anyone has expierienced? any ideas...does it mean I have diabetes now? I am so confused and of course no Drs are in till after 3
Thank you all *****ad this.

Gina - Been there done that! I was perscribed glucophage (same thing just name brand) due to insulin resistance. I had to then start checking blood sugars (which I had never done before) and found out the rx made my sugar go very low. I would shake and break out in sweats and would be extremely dizzy. I finally quit the med's cause it made me too sick. My Endo. said that it would not make my sugar go dangerously low but my pcp said yes it would. Good luck in finding answers just know that you are not the only one. Collette
Well since this morning I wound up using my sisters blood test monitor and it was 140...my sister said that was high. I have no clue, Today my husband took me to see my very first Broadway show and I almost didn't get to see it, same thing happened again before the show started. I was soaked by the time i went in. And the more it happened the more freaked I started to get. Anyway my endo wasn't in at all and I just got off the phone with my PCP. The receptionist told me to call again tomorrow but as of now there is nothing available till the 5th of sept, The receptionist brought up the menopausel thing to me and i said i just turned 36...she said I'm too young. Ughhh it's frightening me, I will try the endo again tomorrow.
Hi Gina -
Best to get a definitive answer from either your primary care physician or from the endo, if you can as to whether you have diabetes or not... What might be high for one person might not be for another.
That being said, I know a lot of times (even pre-op) I tended to sweat a lot when I ate/drank as my body 'processed' the food (and happens post op with certain foods/drinks). I didn't specifically monitor my sugar as it happens, but most people have a higher blood sugar for 45 mins - 2 hours after eating than they would before eating, and that's a fair guideline to when I sweat the worst (just after eating usually).
The good news is that from preop, when I was on 1500mg glucophage (metformin) and 1 tab (40mg?) Actos per day, and my sugar was out of whack, I was able to get down to no meds post-op, and my A1Cs (average blood sugar) have been below "non-diabetic" levels (< 6.0) post op. I'm still a Type 2 diabetic, since that has more to do with your body, insulin levels and insulin resistance, but it's in control post-op, at least for me.
Good luck, and hope this helps some..
