Man Says His Weight Prevented Him From Adopting

Image

Jack Fink Reporting

(CBS 11 News) DALLAS A 501 pound man said that he lost his chance to adopt a second child simply because he is overweight. Now, he is in North Texas for what could be his only chance to get his son back. Gary Stocklaufer and his wife, Cynthia, hope to adopt baby Max. they took in the child during the first week he was born because his cousin couldn't raise him anymore. Last month, Stocklaufer said that a family court in his home of Kansas City ruled that he was unfit to adopt because he was obese. Stocklaufer was shocked because the same judge allowed him and his wife to adopt their first son years earlier. Stocklaufer is at the same weight today as he was back then. He and his wife are now accusing the state of discrimination. Renaissance Hosptial in Dallas heard about Stocklaufer's story and wanted to help. The hospital and Dr. Wade Barker have agreed to perform gastric bypass surgery on Stocklaufer free of charge. "Dr. Barker, Renaissance Hospital, are happy to do this," said hospital spokeswoman Angie Flores. "They know the injustice that he has been through. Now, he's scheduled to have the weight loss procedure." Gastric bypass surgery typically costs patients $100,000. Stocklaufer hopes that the procedure will actually help him get his son back, though there is no guarantee. http://cbs11tv.com/local/local_story_227212648.html     (Video of the man)

Pathetic!  I know several Family Court judges, work with them daily.  Their behaviors would be equally as erratic!  TOO MUCH POWER AND CONTROL! Glad some of the medical peeps stepped up for him!

I AM QUOTING A DEAR FREINDS RESPONSE TO SOMEON ON THIS TOPIC FROM ELSEWHERE  AND THIS MAKES MORE SENS AS WE ALL KNOW THE MEDIA ARE MORONS AT TIMES I do believe I read in the fine print that the media failed to point out that the man was unable to hold a job due to his weight, which essentially made it a financial reason for turn down. Either the media or the gentleman chose to turn it into a weight discrimination issue in stating that he was the same weight for his last adoption, which was true... financial differences however. Happy he is doing something about his weight, but one needs to be able to support ones family before adopting more. Even though he and his wife would be able to produce them on their own without getting anyones permission or approval, but thats just life. Things are rarely the way the media portrays them

Thank G*d someone else has seen/heard this side of the story as well. It's so much easier to just scream "I'm fat so the judge won't let me have a child" than to admit you've been a "burden" on society, living off the goverment and sitting on your A&S rather than getting up moving and looking for work.Lazy, unmotivated, goverment funds draining people really chap my a&s!!
