I don't know if this is any help, but my surgeon accepts any insurance except for medicare...why? I have no clue.  As you research surgeons, make sure you tell them from the beginning that you have medicare.  Good Luck!!!

Medicare will only cover "Centers of Excellence"  I know there arent many.  Mine is one. Dont know how far you are from Port Jervis, NY.  Bon Secours hosp. is a center of excellence. Dont know of any others.  Good luck. -- Marlayna

Hi,

Just went through this experience with Medicare, Go the website for medicare or Surgical Review that is where you will see which hospital/drs are approved as CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE, as that is all medicare will cover.  I believe Mt Sini and NYU are on the list, as well as some on LI, also Westchester Medical Center.  Good Luck

Hi, My surgery is 8/16/07, TOMORROW!!!!! yes with medicare and my secondary insurance.  It really doesn't take that long, it always seems to be when you're the one waiting.  I started my process in May 07 with the seminar, then surgeon, but in the mean time I arrange with my PC to have everything that was needed for preop, by the way I hope you have at least 6 months of documented nutrition/ diets or some programs weight loss with your pc to show or you have some medical reason for surgery, that is what medicare wants.  I'm sure once you start your journey you'll see that everything does fall in place.  Good Luck judy
