My Surgery Story

In case anyone is interested, I've written a very detailed play by play of what my RNY surgery experience was like this week.   The entries are in reverse order, so in order to start at the beginning you have to scroll down to find part one and then work your way up the page.   I know that as a pre-op I would have loved to hear ever detail, so I thought I'd share.   I will warn you, I leave nothing out.  There is some grossness and I am a woman who likes her curse words when she writes.  (I can never curse in real life, but I sure do let it loose on the page!) so if you are easily offended by icky stuff or foul language, this story is not for you.  Just click on my name to go to my profile and you'll find all of my blogs.

Great recount of your experience.  I'll have to do that.

Thanks for the play by play of what to expect. This is the first time I have posted on this site but have been reading for over 2 months. I am scheduled for surgery on August 21st and like you am getting very nervous as the day approaches. I can only have clear liquids for the 3 days prior to surgery which will be difficult. One day I think I could do but three will be a challenge.

You know what would have made liquids easier for me before surgery, but that I didn't think of until it was too late?  Soup.  I could have strained all the Progresso Soups or homemade soups I wanted (broth based of course) and enjoyed them.  They would have had great flavor and been filling.  Instead I just drank Lipton Diet Green Tea, Milk, and icky boullion based broth.  I was starving and craving flavors..and I really think yummy strained soups would have been great.   Best of luck to you!  It's so close!!!

If you're looking for surgery stories,  I too have mine in pretty explicit detail on my profile.  At the top of the page is a clickable link. I'm assuming you're having an RNY; I had the DS but initially post-op there is little difference between the two surgeries.  Good luck and God bless.

Thank you for the recount.  Just hearing the view point from a patient as opposed to the dr/nurse makes it easier to digest (so to speak)  Good Luck in your recovery!!
