Jaimee;      Sisters hospital is wonderful about letting others stay with you.  I stayed with my daughter when she had her surgery in March and when I had mine in May she stayed with me the whole time.   They brought us a chair to sleep in and were more then accomodating to us.   I would highly recommend that someone be there with you, espeically overnight.  The staff is great but there are just not enough of them and they are over worked (story of a health care worker, to many patients and not enough time) .   It was so nice to be able to get up when I needed to and not have to wait for someone to come and help me.    Also, check with the clerk (office by the elevators) about a three day parking pass at a discounted rate.  It will save money for sure.  We also took in a cooler with bottles of water (of course my daughter being post op), string cheese and yougurt and they were more then glad to bring her ice when she needed it.          Hope this info helps.  Sally

Jaimee;     As an after thought, the only thing I can't advice you on is if they allow children to visit.   I never saw any young children any where on the whole floor I was on so they could have a strict policy against young children.  You would have to call and speak to someone there.  I know that they have guards at the doors at all times.    Sally

Yes, You can have people stay overnight. my husband didn't want to stay and I'm glad he didn't because they were in my room all night long every hour, taking temp, blood presure ,heprin shot, etc. I really didn't need anyone to stay with me . I only got up in the night to go to the bathroom and had to have a nurse come in any to plug me back in and boot my boots back on and turn on the machine. Let your hubby stay home and get a good nights sleep. you will be just fine. The day of the surgery you are going to be dosing in and out and are not gonna want any visitors except your husband. As far as kids visiting they are not allowed. not only that you wouldn't want them to se you like that. Sheila

We told the kids I would be away for a few days.  The only one I am worried about is my son, he is a mommas boy big time.  He will be with Grandma though and I think he will like that.  He just likes to be in his own bed.  He stayed with her the other night and he was up till abot 5 am and back up at 6:30.  LOL, she said if his Dad does stay there she would stay here with him.  Jaimee

YOU REALLY SHOULD HAVE SOMEONE STAY WITH YOU.  THE FIRST AND SECOND SHIFT ARE GOOD, BUT THE THIRD SHIFT NURSING STAFF IS FAR FROM COMPETANT AND PRETTY MUCH NON-EXISTANT.  I WAS GLAD I HAD MY DAUGHTER WITH ME.

Tessie..... Aren't daughters the best..........lol.  Not that my son isn't awesome also, but my daughter was such a champ.   She had it down to a science on how to move that IV pole around, how to keep my little black bag from getting caught up or run over by the pole and she even took care of the bootys they  had us wearing.  Except for meds and vitals I really didn't have much need for a nurse.   Guess maybe because she had been through it before me she knew just what needed to be done for her old mom.   I thank the Lord every day for blessing me with great children.
