Hello all!  Thanks so much for everything, you are all so GREAT for sharing your stories.  I am just starting this journey.  I went to the manditory info session for my center and I have a date to meet with the surgeon.  I was wondering what type of clearance I will need.  I have... sleep apnea (should I bring records from my specalist to my visit w/the surgeon? and will I need to get another sleep study???? i hated that) high blood pressure (within this past year i had an echo, chest x ray, stress test, cardiac enzymes, and many ekg's...its just due to my weight...should i get my records and an ok from them?) asthma due to the weight my endocronologist said my thryoid is ok, my glucose is ok, i dont have cushings or any other thing... just fat and she suggested gastric bypass to me (should i get that in wrighting from her?) edema gerd so... should i go to my first appt with my surgeon with all this paperwork from all of my specalists?  do you all think i will need all of these workups AGAIN???  i have been thru it all this past year.  do i call my insurance co or does the centers office contact them?  i already gave them the letter from my priomary care doc. sorry this is so long, i have sooooo many questions... i have a LOT of weight to loose.  my dad died at 51 in his sleep due to his obesiety...i am 32 and 299lbs.. and only 5'7"... i dont want to die like he did! thanks again for all you guys offer here!! kristy...in upstate NY

HI! I am sure every surgeon is different....but, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to take all your reports.   Yes, the people on here are just great...I have learned so much. Good Luck and keep us posted! Rosemary

Welcome. Sounds to me that more than half of your work is done. There will be certain tests which must be done 6 months before surgery. You certainly are starting out more together than a lot of us did. Call and make an appt. with your surgeon, bring your records and see what his / insurance protocol is. Good Luck. Take Care~~ Diane

I would suggest that youu take copies of your records (keep some for yourself as well). The reason being, is that one, you MAY not have to re-do certain tests (it depends on your doc as someone else said), but also, it will help when approval time comes. Trust me, I just found out that by traking down my records and having them for my 1st appt., enabled the office to start the approval process sooner and tonight I found out I am approved and have my date! I wish you the best. Stay organized and no matter what, do not ever give up! Keep us posted on your status.

Be blessed!

Wow, I agree with the other, it sounds like 1/2 your work is done! With the co-morbidities you listed, approval shouldn't be an issue if your insurer typically covers WLS. The more info-records you can bring with you, the more time you save your center from having to send for them. You will need a letter of necessity from your primary care provider stating why he/she thinks this is the best option for you. Other than that, your center will take care of everything else. You will also need a psych eval, but most centers make that available to you there. Good luck, Kristy!

Welcome, I agree with Rosemary that you should bring the paperwork just in case, it can not hurt!  And as she said every surgeon is different. I wish you the best and keep us posted!
