TSH levels slightly elevated....Dr. C office won't ....
Hi there, I am getting frustrated. I got my medical neccessity letter from my PCP this afternoon, I hand delivered it to Dr. Caruana's office along with the other paperwork. Barb, I think at Dr. C's office, said she needed the lab paperwork from my PCP. I had Sheila fax that over to Dr. C's office. I got a call from Barb, saying that she rec'd the fax. She also asked if I am on medication for the thyroid, since it is elevated. I said no, I am not. Well, Barb said that Independent Health would not approve WLS surgery, with the levels that high.
My letter of med. nec. stated that my TSH levels were slightly high, upon testing with normal free t4.
I called Sheila, at PCP office, and told her what I was told by Dr. C's office. Sheila said she will let my PCP know, and will get back to me on Thursday. Hopefully.
I want to know what the next hurdle would be: Meds, bloodwork,
Has anybody else gone thru this?
Anne
Don't get discouraged, Anne. I think it's all part of the deal. The docs will work it out. Hang in there. I think everybody has gone through this ... it seems like there are many hoops to jump through. I think they all want to be sure you are committed to it and to everything that follows, as well. Good luck ...
Thanks for your replies. I called my PCP on Thursday, and Sheila (a great receptionist) said that Dr. K. (myPCP) wants to talk with Dr. C about the TSH levels. Though Dr. C's office said that the insurance would probably not approve it, without it being retested. Lets see what happens. Hopefully it gets retested and the levels go down.
